Have you had your reggae today?

About Me

Now in stereo:I've been an avid reggae fan since 1978 when it got into my blood at the very first Reggae Sunsplash festival. Jah must've been smiling upon me because shortly after my return from Jamaica I landed a gig as a recording engineer at A&M Records studios where I got to meet and work with a number of popular recording artists. Before that I produced and recorded a demo tape for a band comprised of members from the group War as well as for a solo artist named Stan Thompson. Fast forward about 20 years to Phoenix and the Bob Marley Festivals (later called the Legends of Rasta Reggae Festivals). Having attended the 2nd and 3rd (I missed the first one in 1999), I volunteered to help with whatever I could on the 4th and also the 5th, but having to find a new venue after 4 years of successful festivals at Margaret Hance Park seemed to put the kibosh on things. I've also assisted Rock Steady at Shooting Star Records, first with the (2006) Father's Day Weekend Reggae Bash in Tempe and later with the Hopiland Labor Day Reggae Festival at Kykotsmovi. I am interested foremost in promoting reggae in Arizona and in developing and promoting reggae and other musical artists. Currently (2008) I am involved in putting on reggae shows outta Goat Head Saloon in Mesa and am looking for additional acts to book. I've also worked with Island Roots Promotions to put on Saturday night live reggae shows at The Dirty Devil in Tempe. In networking I'm interested (sorry for the Yoda-talk) with anyone who shares my love of reggae and music. I strongly believe in the message of reggae as well, which I believe is needed now more than ever, to help bring about peace, harmony and one love in the world. At the encouragement of my peeps I recently broke out my old trombone which hadn't been touched since my school days of many years ago and have been putting down some tracks on songs at DJ Law Studio. Three such songs are on this page and another one ("Greenland Dub") is on Dread Warriors' myspace page. By the way, that's Dumi Hlangwane (of both Afree Kai and Dread Warriors) wailing on guitar on "Easy Ride." I've also recently put together my own home studio ("Second Chance Studio"). "(Dream on) Train to Chelsea" (alternate title: "Remember the 70's?") is my first solo effort at creating music in my new studio. It actually resulted from trying out my recording software for the very first time. I completed "Dub for VT" (original name) in the days after the tragedy at VA Tech and would like to dedicate it to everyone who was affected by what happened on that very sad day. After the very tragic passing of Lucky Dube I decided to rededicate (and rename) the song to also include Lucky Dube.
