About Me

Listen now...
The short story is, I'm Max Nauta, a bass player from Denmark, living in Berlin, Roskilde and Copenhagen, trying my best to bring real music out in these times of unreal and fictional stuff (and I KNOW this is a weird statement to put on a myspace page, but that's how I feel about that).
I love to play and I love to listen to good music...
Currently I'm involved in projects like the award-winning Polish-Danish band
Kattorna www.kattorna.com ,
The Idiotchild www.idiotchild.de ,
The Queen's Gang Orchestra - QGO www.queensgang.de ,
Kevin McHugh Trio www.therealmchugh.com ,
find us @ www.allaboutjazz.com
Bergitta Victor & Band www.bergittavictor.com
and the groovy jazzy funky quartet around Wulf Winkelmüller
Gut Feeling www.gut-feeling.de
Also, I have started up a duo with pianist Mark Reinke - FINALLY TO BE HEARD HERE!!! And there's more music on the store...
Here are some pictures of bands and Berlin and my bass (isn't she lovely?). I'm very thankful to be alive and able to play, and curious what the future might bring...
AVAILABLE FOR RECORDING AND TOURING - PLEASE INQUIRE FOR DETAILS AND CONDITIONS

Influences: Life, the Universe and Everything...
A short history of my musical experiences so far: It all started out with singing and banging on anything available. I was singing from the age of ?? (is crying singing?) and taking drum lessons from 7 to 9 years old. Then I fell in love with the bass as the "glue" in the groove and played electric bass ever since. My first teacher, Niels Rasmussen , hipped me onto jazz and improvised music, and on the roof of his old timer Volvo Amazone, brought my first bass, Clara , home to me (I was 16 back then). A free year followed with playing for fun and acting at a drama school in Vostrup , Jutland, and then in my high school years I got double bass lessons from Preben Fahnøe . Many bands were founded and disbanded, most important: Niller's Hyggeband, Vostrup Jazzband, DaaR GuuS (vol.1), MYTHOS, Moe/Nauta, AiR's husorkester, Green Quartet, plus I got to play with DUSIKA, Danish Youth Symphony Orchestra and Mastokestret (performing Sebastian's musicals "Den Ny Cyrano" & "Klokkeren"). (The most obscure names are deleted from the list, beleive it or not;-) But after advice from my 3rd important teacher, Bo Stief , I chose to go the road of exile and education in Berlin, Germany, and after 5 years of "Hanns Eisler" , I now live and work in Berlin (with travellings to Denmark, Poland and Switzerland coming up).
***A brief and regrettably incomplete list of other teachers, who have inspired me: Marc Muellbauer, Klavs Hovmann, Martin Lillich, Jiggs Whigham, Thomas Clausen, Alfons Wonneberg, Jeanfrancois Prins, Ruben Giorgis, Jeff Bradetitch, Teppo Hauta-Aho, Francois Rabbath, Niels-Henning, Flemming, Kield, Tau, Nenia Zenana, Georg Ruby, Nicki Tärichen, Palle Danielsson, Jerry Granelli, John Hollenbeck, Paul Brody, David Friesen, Uwe Kropinski, Volker Schlot, Gabriel Gordon. ***
Have been travelling with different groups, and this is my life. Musicians are similar to the sailors of our time, since live music can't be transported without moving the actual artist... And my last name means sailor...
Sounds Like: I do like sounds a lot... My favourite sounds these days are my bass, running or falling water, blackbirds and nightinggales (we DO have them in Berlin city!!!) and the voice of singers who put their soul into their music. I like pictures too:
