About Me

"Ad Franks loquacious croon evokes early David Bowie or late Jarvis Cocker, with maybe a smidgen of Bryan Ferrys I'm-world-weary-but-I-look-fabulous cynicism." - Jonathan Perry, Stuff at Night

Ad Frank is back with his bruised, well-intentioned baritone.
His impending release, entitled Ad Frank is the Worlds Best Ex-Boyfriend, harks back to the asleep-at-the-bar loneliness of his 2001 effort Mr. Fancypants. The result is a sound that somehow evokes both early Ric Ocasek and recent Nick Cave. His current band, the Fast Easy Women, featuring former and current members of Tracy Bonham, Helicopter Helicopter and Garvy J., offers a glam-new wave-cabaret epoxy that manages to keep it all glued together.
As the title implies, Ad Frank is the Worlds Best Ex-Boyfriend offers 13 wry, fragile takes on a life and love that did not go as planned. If I Find Another One of Your Bobby Pins in My Bed, Im Coming By to Shove Them Up Your Ass sounds like Queen fallen on hard times. Lucky is an epic declaration of hope and shame. The title track is pure, manic heartbreak.
Mixed by Matthew Ellard (George Michael, Queen, Motorhead), Worlds Best Ex cuts just a bit closer to the quick than Ads previous efforts. Do I really have to go insane to write a decent record? is all he will offer by way of explanation.
Ad Frank is the Worlds Best Ex-Boyfriend will be one of a string of new Spring offerings from Texas-based Stop Pop and Roll, an independent label specializing in unique, subtly dark and varied takes on pop music. Other artists include the shimmeringly hi-fi Paula Kelley (ex-Drop Nineteens), and the churlish Cathal Coughlin, formerly of Irelands Microdisney and Fatima Mansions.
In recent years, Ads real estate value has risen sharply in his hometown of Boston, marked by near-excessive college radio play, a string of kinetic, sold-out shows, and opening slots for the likes of John Cale, Mose Allison and Shivaree. Ad will celebrate his new record with a series of shows throughout the U.S. in March and April, so that he may continue to send women running to the bathroom in tears.
