The Inner Party

About Me

"(The Inner Party) appeals to a diverse audience through their quirky lyrics, punk rock energy, and inventiveness. Think the Pixies with a little bit of Ween and a lot of every band your mother would hate." - Nightflying p. 8, Winter Daze 2009
"Loud and noisy - (The Inner Party) is a musical common ground where punkers and metal heads can relax and have a drink." - Hails & Horns p. 68, Mar/Apr 2009 No. 13
Fayetteville, Arkansas’s The Inner Party is the culmination of a long running collaboration between JR’s Lightbulb Club expatriates Keith Miller and Dave Morris. They have been playing and recording together off and on very informally since 1999. Miller (on the verge of having an Art degree) and Morris (a former teacher and national debate champion) were both at a crossroads in life and felt like they could no longer be distracted with other pursuits and needed to focus exclusively on making music. They were soon joined by Kara Wilber, Gray Warlick, and Steve Adair who give the Inner Party a more organic and sometimes chaotic live sound.
The Inner Party has shared the stage with Lucero, the J.V. All-Stars, A Good Fight, Dreamfast, the Heat Machine, Benjamin Del Shreve, the Good Fear, the Moving Front, Ashtray Babyhead, K.T.P., Randall Shreve, Queen Beast, Memphis Pencils, and many other local and regional bands. The Inner Party has also been featured in interviews with Nightflying, the Fayetteville Flyer, the Fayetteville Free Weekly, 104.9 The X's morning show "The A.M. X", and Hails & Horns.
The Inner Party’s debut EP "Honky Heretics" was recorded entirely at Miller’s home by the band. The EP, like the band, does not play the genre game very well with its diverse sounds but the influence of bands like the Pixies, Sonic Youth, Big Black, the Talking Heads, Nirvana, and the Jesus and Mary Chain is present. It captures the noisy melodies and simply fun dynamic of their live performances. Lead single “Untouchable” displays the pop tendencies of the band with its three part harmonies while retaining their trademark gritty distortion. Conversely, “Used Parts” relies on the almost unheard of use of a bit crusher as a guitar effect along with other bits of noise sweetened with dual lead vocals by Miller and Wilber.
"Honky Heretics" was released digitally and physically by the band through Imperfect Entertainment. The Inner Party is currently soliciting funds and recording demos for their proper full length debut “The Inner Party Makes a Mess”, which they hope to record at Armstrong Recording Studio in Tulsa, OK with legendary punk guitarist Stephen Egerton (Descendents, ALL) if finances allow. The Inner Party intends to spend the rest of 2009 playing as many shows as possible regionally and also hopes to do a national tour before the end of the year.
