riot79 biography
Riot79 have been together since early 2006 and comprise of four talented individuals from Stoke on Trent withSteve Halfpenny on vocals Lee Jewess on guitar Tom Harold on Bass Gaz holdcroft on drumThey each have a passion for the punk/power pop sound and melodic guitar riffs. riot79 have managed to achieve that unmistakable 1977 punk sound from back in the day and have put their own individual modern twist to it, with influences such as The clash, Wire, The Fall and the Buzzcocks. These guys are well worth a look. Riot-79 have a quickly growing fan base and supported the legendary Vibrators at their first gig with a sellout venue, the set went fantastic getting great feed back from the old school punks who lived it the first time round to new inde kids of today riot79 appeal to a vast crowd. During the winter of 2005 Lee Jewess and Gaz Holdcroft got together in a little rehearsal studio in Stoke called Star-track and began playing together with just the two of them putting together bits and pieces and starting to develop a tight rhythm. Gaz came from an old band called The Dead Poets but with it not going in a directing musically he wanted to be going Gaz decided to get out. Lee who has always had a passion for playing guitar and being in a band with his dad fronting a local old school punk band called The New Subterranean's it wasn't long before he started his own band up. This was the back bone of riot79. A few people came and went but never really a style of their own and a dedicated singer or bass player enter Steve and Tom. One night in a local pub in Stoke Lee and Steve started to talk and Lee asked Steve to come a long to a rehearsal to sing and play a bit of guitar, steve took Tom with him and the rest is history so they say. The four gelled together instantly and both Steve and Lee started to write songs frantically With Lee writing the music and Steve writing the lyrics or Steve writing both, a set of songs started to develop with a unique individual sound instantly they new they had something here. Getting great feed back from friends and strangers from Myspace they had to get something out there. Their first trip to the studio was to studio Q to record 3 tracks, but it was with a later visit to the Prism studio to record a 2 track demo that their true potential was released. These guys love to gig and love the music they are making, producing great stage presence and looking the part its only in good time that these guy are going to be snapped up.
