POWER TO THE INDEPENDENT THEY MAKE UP THE WHOLE

About Me

Singer/Songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Joseph McNeil propelled onto the music scence of Chicago Illinois making a living playing guitar for one of the Midwest Region's premier bands, "Rude Beat League". Wild stage antics, joy of unpredictability and the dynamics of diversity in RBL prompted founding member Dhone Johnson to dub Joseph with the moniker "Jungle JO". In Jamaica the term "Jungle" means "bahd mahn". Thus "Junglyss" was born. While touring with Rude Beat, Joseph received a phone call from a cousin in Minneapolis asking him to join Sony/Epic recording artist Alexander O’Neal’s touring band. Taking a break from RBL, he decided to take the opportunity to see more of the world. Although never having been with an international act before, Alex gave Joseph his patented "crash course" on the rigors and joys of being part of a professional production. While living in Minneapolis, Joseph met and began working with one of Prince’s musical protégée’ Tony Le Mans.Joseph and Tony discovered they had similar musical influences as well as writing styles. This led to writing and production collaboration for a Minneapolis based band Joseph subsequently joined called “Pink Cabaret” which briefly included Graffiti Bridge star Ingrid Chavez. With encouragement and influence from Tony, Joseph returned to Chicago to write and record songs for his own project "Saint Joseff".After a while in Chicago, Joseph was called yet again back to Minneapolis by Steve Starr lead vocalist and Bass player for the band "Hot Sauce" to do three days of recording at Paisley Park studios. This band including members London O'Keith, Stevo Sykes, Malik Worthy and, Steve Starr, can be seen briefly in the movie Graffiti Bridge as George Clinton’s backing band. Though asked to appear as an extra in the movie, Joseph declined.Back in Chicago, good reviews from several music publications and local approval prompted Joseph to put a band together and launch a short tour that was well received. Dropping the name Saint Joseff and going back to his roots, Junglyss was now in full effect again.Junglyss's songs, some of which speak of social and political issues, fusing the basic elements of several generes of music together while also bridging the musical gap between Baby Boomers and today’s youth. When asked to describe his music, he calls it P.S.R. or,” Psychedelic Soul Raw’. College Music Journal however describes it as being reminiscent of sixty’s rockers “Sly and the Family Stone”.Though Sly and the Family Stone of the sixty’s it may not be, it is however Junglyss of today! How, does he think, the internet changes the music industry? "One way is the internet gives the artist and music industry a greater opportunity to realize and expose "Grass Roots" efforts again." I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
