winner winner mandolinner!

About Me

I'm a mandolin player. I guess I'm a non-traditionalist, as I don't play bluegrass or old-time exclusively (worth mentioning that I'm also a pretty crap mandolinner by bluegrass standards), but weave the traditional role of the mandolin into other genres of music. I grew up on jazz and classical music and have always tried to apply improvisational flexibility and harmonic complexity to everything I play. I started playing music when I was about 9 years old in Fresno, CA. Went to a pretty progressive arts-magnet school and was exposed to a lot of forward-thinking stuff...to what extent that has paid off, I'm not quite sure. In my own music I try to echo the voices of Miles Davis and Frank Zappa, via my mandolin heroes like Sam Bush, Chris Thile, and Mike Marshall.
