About Me

What makes for a good live electronica show?
A faithful reproduction of the album? A compelling DVD in sync with the songs? A vocalist dancing around while a couple of other guys may or may not be really doing anything? An impressive light show? Is it the "industrial keyboard rocking" that occurs between the instances of triggering a single sample once or twice a song? Or perhaps an Yngwie ..boards? Not to say that there is anything inherently wrong with any of this. But...what if you could be offered something rare in an electronic performance? What if all of the sounds are being generated in realtime by clunky looking boxes with wires sticking out them? What if the songs end up different everytime you hear them? What if you could logically see cause and effect between what you see and what you hear? What if something goes catastrophically wrong? Wouldn’t that be fun?
Since its inception in 2001, the engimatic Dissociate has been one of the hidden treasures of the Twin Cities electronic music community. While there is little recorded work currently available to the public, Dissociate has built a small fan base on the strength of mind altering live performances and word of mouth. Chris Randall (of sister machine gun, micronaut) gave his unofficial endorsement after hearing Dissociate open locally for the Noise.to.Signal tour (micronaut, monstrum sepsis, and amish rake fight) in april 2005, stating that Dissociate was some of the best noise he’s heard since Converter..................
Dissociate has performed with Covenant, Imperative Reaction, Rotorsand, Amish Rake Fight, Monstrum Sepsis, Micronaut, Leichenfeld, Heliosphere, Little Tin Box..........................
Dissociate is the solo project of Jonathan Ford, a Minneapolis, MN USA based musician, sound designer, and DJ that draws influence from an eclectic array of sources such as power noise, IDM, trance, and trip hop. In contrast with many electronic acts, Dissociate is designed with spontaneity and improvisation in mind. Each song is constructed and arranged in real-time from multiple sound sources and looping sequences. Every performance is a unique exploration of the material often resulting in new musical discoveries within this confined aural space..........................
Past projects include playing guitar and programming for Dies Irae !US, a dark pop outfit that began in 1996, which reached its peak in 1999 performing the main stage at the 8. Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, DE. The group disbanded the same year having released one independent album in late 1998 entitled DOGMA. While a student at the University of Minnesota, Jonathan co-founded a radio program on KUOM 770 Radio K called The Descent. Airing from May of 1997 until January 2003, The Descent provided a sorely missing outlet on the airwaves for the darker genres of music. Including co-hosts Erik Hoover and Mike Neuharth, the self-styled Descent Triad have made numerous guest DJ appearances at varied clubs and venues in the Twin Cities over the last six years, including spinning for Gary Numan at the First Avenue Main room. As a sound designer, Jonathan has also contributed music, audio collages, and sound effects for numerous local theatrical and performance art pieces. In 2002, Jonathan participated in a production of Die Hamletmaschine, performed on July 4th in conjunction with the XIV World Congress International Federation for Theatre Research in Amsterdam......................................
Besides Dissociate, Jonathan produces and plays guitar for the emerging Electropunk outfit Stellar Vector in collaboration with Charles Sadler from Little Tin Box. Stellar Vector’s EP "You’re Not Included" is available at StellarVector.com . The pair also collaborate in the production team In.Flect, which has remixed the likes of Halloween Alaska, 12 Rods, and Trigger10D on WTII Records.....................Jonathan now lends beats and noise to Aurascape
