About Me
I & I ten reggae warriors are chanting down Babylon, with nuff enthusiasm, freshness and good vibrationz. Riddim Colony plays modern roots reggae and dancehall music with our special taste. We play our own songs, and also some riddims with own lyrics. Lyrics and chants are 100% original. The high artistic-musical level, the positive message and powerful lyrics, the strong stage show, and altogether the best possible Vibrationz are all very important for I&I. Also we find it substantial, to take part in building the Hungarian (and international) reggae scene and family, that’s why we’ve organized the first Irie Day - Reggae for Peace Festival (on 6th August 2006, the memorial day for Hiroshima and the Jamaican Independence) at which most of the Hungarian reggae bands and sound systemz as well performed, and other big bashments and parties from time to time. And that’s why we often collaborate with different artists and bands from all over. After many changes and development right now di band is like dis:
Miguel, Leslie, Richie and Gábor are di core a di band on drums, bass, guitar and keys, G.Ras mek di lead vocals, Jr Brown as well Princess Csicsi and Adrienn are di background vocalists and Ãbel and Fatime are di mighty horn section. The story began in 2004 as a cool idea of two young musicians: Miguel, the hard hard drummer and Lezlie 2 Long, the serious bass player. After Miguel had met one of Jimmy Cliff’s superb albums, he decided to form a reggae band, and Lezlie, with whom he had played a lot previously, joined at once. So they began to experiment with roots-rock-reggae music, trying to find their own style.Soon (they found the other needed members for a basic reggae band. Anikó, the nice and tough Lady joined with her accordion, and Ritchie Ritch became a member also, with his sexy-smooth guitar. As reggae is usually quite empty without human voices, this positions were soon filled by Mc GawnHigh (later: Junior Brown) who is responsible for the deejay style and JZA who is vocalist and singer.During the spring of 2005 the band looked so complete at last with the joining of Greg G.Ras on percussion and Dóri, the beautiful singer, that we started to make up our real own songs, and build up our own style through spending a lot of time with playing music together. The creativity and enthusiasm came together with luck for us (maybe because the formation of the band was in the year 2005 (the great Bob Marley’s 60th anniversary by the way) and we could have our first concert on 1st November 2005 in Budapest that is the band’s hometown.
After some months Dóri, the singer Lady left the band, and also did Boris, the sister who joined for some weeks. Also Anikó left the Colony, but before that, she participated in making our first studio demo recording, called Riddim Colony, finished by July 2006.
Other changes have happenned as well in that period: Greg (G.Ras) who has been writing nuff lyrics anyway, started to sing too, the band has been enriched with a brass section, with the very young gentleman, Ãbel on trombone and Pali on trumpet (later Fatime on saxophone), after the leaving of Anikó and then Tomi, the keyboardist we found the brilliant Gabor ..s and at last the band won two beautiful ladies with wonderful vocal skills: first Csicsi and then Adrienn joined the band.We nuh stop, we’ve been makin our music with nuff passion, and started to play more and more often in many clubs and different towns, and at many fests developing our style, musical and entertaining skills. The band’s started to play also abroad (Rototom Fest (Italy), HannaHanna Fest (Slovakia), Romania...)So PEACE & LOVE to One and All, BIGUP DI REGGAE CREW and BIGUP di MASSIVE!BLESS
