O meu nome e Iara. Nasci em Mocambique. Resido em Lisboa e gosto de misturar musicas de Jungle, Drum n Bass, Ragga e Hip Hop/Rap em vinil. Por ter estado sempre ligada a musica desde a minha tenra idade, decidi em finais de 2003 enveredar nesta actividade, fazendo uma workshop de mistura e scratch. No inicio de 2004 comprei o material necessario para arrancar com a minha carreira musical.
A minha primeira actuacão foi na Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia do Monte da Caparica em meados desse ano. A partir desta iniciacão comecei a actuar com mais regularidade no ultimo trimestre de 2005 em locais como: - Clube Europa (Cais do Sodre) em 04/10; - Inauguracão da Casadecor (Cascais) em 06/10; - Politika Lounge (Bairro Alto) em 26/11; - Campanha Presidencial do Mario Soares (Edificio Eden, Restauradores) em 01/12; -

Aprecio todos os estilos musicais em geral, mas com.. obvio tenho as minhas preferencias. Gosto de Ragga, Drum N Bass, Jungle, Reggae, Hip Hop, Jazz, Electro, Breakbeat, musica africana... O meu Dj de eleicão e o Dj Zinc e Ltj Bukem, por serem originais e abragerem o gosto de todo o tipo de p..blico, como produtores gosto de Ray Keith, Cause 4 Concern, e Bad Company pela sua batida seca, incisiva e com um baixo maravilhoso. Aphrodite pela sua energia alegre. No Ragga destaco o Red Rat pela sua voz inconfund..vel e Bounty Killer por serem autenticos e os Saian Supa Crew recomendam-se. De momento sou a unica dj feminina de Drum N Bass em Portugal, espero que surjam mais, servindo de exemplo. Eu pessoalmente serei a porta-voz da diversidade, qualidade, criatividade e rigor. Estou sempre atenta a espectaculos musicais para adquirir outros conhecimentos e novas experiencias para a minha evolucão. My name is Iara and I am a Mozambican born and dj living in Lisbon, Portugal. I spin mostly Jungle, Drum n Bass and Ragga on vinyl. From a young age I have always been in contact with the musical process, which resulted in my pursuing that interest by attending a workshop on mixing and scratching in 2003.
In early 2004, I made the ultimate decision and purchased decks so as to jump-start my carreer. The first party and which I spun was a University Party at the Faculdade de Ci..ncias e Tecnologia of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. After my first try, and having been quite satisfied with the results, I started spending more time on perfecting my skills. Since late 2005 I have become a regular dj both on the lisbon club scene, underground drum n bass parties, and university parties.
You would have seen me in venues in places such as: in Lisbon, Sesimbra, Cascais. I played with Dj Wildchild and Miss Represent from Uk. I played on the Radio too.
I am a very open minded person of diverse musical influences, however, among the genres that I relate to the most are: Ragga, Drum n Bass, Hip Hop, Electro, Breakbeat and african born beats. My favourite Djs are Dj Zinc and Ltj Bukem, because they brought us a fresh sound and can make any dancefloor boom. From the production side of things I enjoy the tracks produced by the likes of: Ray Keith, Cause for Concern and Bad Company, because of the simple, but awesome, beats and wonderful base lines. I also like Afrodite for the massive explosions of energy. When it comes to Ragga I would like to mention Red Rat (great voice) and Bounty Killer, for their authenticity and also a special mention to Saian Supa Crew.
At the moment I am the only female Drum n Bass dj in Portugal, an unfortunate fact that I hope will be neutralized by the Drum n Bass parties reaching an ever growing and more widespread audience. I take my role as pioneer in this area very seriously making a real effort to promote quality music and hard work. I make it a priority to keep my eyes open to new artists and influences by going to shows and meeting other artists. I can say that having been born in Mozambic and living in Europe, I am multiculturalism. I strongly believe that we should all work towards making music the universal language of peace, understanding, and love in the world. Every child should have the right to a musical education from an early age, because just like sports, it promotes mental and physical health. On a final note, I would like to say, that I am open to suggestions or work partnerships from anyone who wants to contribute to the growth of the music scene in Portugal.
