"Reach for the moon. That way, even if you miss,
you'll still be up there with the stars." -Gary Raffanelli
Tell 18-year-old recording artist Garrett Raffanelli, also known as Pyro, that he can't do what he wants with his life and you'll probably find yourself swallowing your words before long. Known for his clean lyrics and unique style, Pyro is one teenager who knows what he wants and won't stop himself until he gets there. Not that the odds are against him at this point, as his internet hype is quickly growing and expanding to a more national level.
Born March 6, 1990 in the small town of Sparks, Nevada, Pyro was introduced to music at a very early age. His father was constantly on the road touring with his own band, giving Py a love for the stage and the musician's lifestyle. At the age of 10, he started writing short songs about life at the time, inspired mainly by the popular acts of the day. Within a year, he had expanded his resume as not only a rapper, but a producer, actor, model, singer, and even comedian, anything and everything just to be able to entertain people.
It wasn't until he was 14 until he began to get serious about the music he was creating. With the help of his father, he was able to record his own songs in their family studio. He began to collaborate with local unknown talent similar to himself, combining to create songs that spread not only through those who knew him, but the whole city of Reno as well. Eager to bring himself to another level, he began working with Ras of 3000 Entertainment/Thee Officials Productions. Inspired by what he saw and learned, Pyro gained a more professional attitude and know how of the industry, which would prove to be useful later in his career.
In late-2006, Pyro's name caught the attention of indie label Ill-Legal Records, bringing him to Hollywood to feature him on their artist Emation's debut album, E is for Emation, which was to be distributed in association with Universal Records. His hype was growing rapidly, and his music was growing in quality and maturity, giving his sound, as a partner of his father's stated, “a level of sophistication that rap music needs right now.†In mid-2007, he entered and won the Shadowville $300 contest with his song “Stand My Ground,†gaining attention from all sorts of people, including the media super-corporation MTV.
So where next for this star-in-the-making? Only time will tell. As a senior in high school, he lives life as a normal teenager, putting his every-day experiences into his music and giving teens everywhere someone to relate to. “I keep it real in a way a lot of people don't,†says Pyro. “I don't live in a world of drugs, guns, or the hard streets, so I don't rap about it. I love girls, I love having a good time, and I love living the life I live, so I give people a look into what I love by singing about it.†This is one kid who is headed towards the big things that his songs and lifestyle reflects. Ask anyone, and they'll tell you what Pyro is. He's “So Sophisticated,†and he likes it that way.
