And we didn't call it mixing... We called them changes... Did you hear that change? - Steve D'Acquis

About Me

mixing life - bringing people together - connecting through music - releasing in dance
Hello fam, my name is Brent Crampton. I'm an artist based in Omaha, contributing and interacting with its hidden Bohemia. I'm a DJ, journalist, graphic designer, events promoter and experiential lover of life.
I recently realized that I mix music the same way I mix art, the same way I mix people, the same way I mix foods, the same way I choose to experience things. Because of that, I decided to create a website to mix and share the various manifestations of my life. You can check it out here - www.brentcrampton.com I hope you enjoy. PERSONAL BIO
Mixing life. Expressing myself through music - whether it's DJ'ing in front of people and watching them lose their inhibition to the rhythm, or letting the music touch on some aspect of my experiences. Connecting the dots of people through conversation, through the beat of a song and gathering them to have a communal experience. Progressing culture and raising awareness of social issues. Using the written word for expression or in the journalism context and creating through promotions, pictures, publications and relationships. DJ BIO
Multi-award winning DJ, including Best DJ in 2006 & 2007 for the Omaha Entertainment Awards, named Scion Breakthru Emerging Artist in 2006, titled a “Deep House Pioneer” by The Reader and recognized as a NextAid.org artist, Brent Crampton has been pushing the boundaries of music and culture throughout the Midwest.
His style is driven towards jazz, funk, soul with African and Latin rhythms - the elements from which serious dance music abounds. He can work it with peak global soul sounds, deep & rhythmic tones, or melodic downtempo. Most importantly, his music has a message: Bringing people together – connecting through music – releasing in dance.
He began his love affair of DJing house in the fall of 2000 and has since held residencies or played at many of the top clubs in the Omaha area such as Nomad, Espana, 415, Bricktop, Nico and the Max. From his socially binding monthly titled loom, his Turntable Tutorial DJ class, the art-music fusion shows - ColorSound and Art Reach, to being the NextAid.org Omaha rep., his contribution falls within philanthropy and touches on social progression, education, art and elevating culture.
His impression has been made throughout the region, having performed in Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas, Boston, St. Louis, New Mexico, Hawaii, and along side talent such as King Britt, Colette, Woody McBride, jojoflores, Adam Gibbons and Julius the Madthinker. His driving ambitions have made him the most booked global soul DJ in the area. “There is a healing power in music - and I want to get that out to the people.”

My Interests

Music that shapes the way I look at the world and a world that shapes the way I look at music. Gathering people (promotions and DJ'ing), art, spoken word, written word, Mac laptop (which has become an extension of self), vinyl, traveling, spirituality. That intimate connection that can be felt on a dancefloor and that sacred energy that can be released. The look and feel of city skylines. Pushing the boundaries of thought and culture.

I'd like to meet:

People to network with, stay in contact with near and far friends, those who are into the music and people who are evolving our culture/minds/perspectives.

Music:

Deep House, Broken Beat, Disco, Downtempo, Future Jazz, Trip Hop, Credible-Conscious Hip Hop, Bossa Nova, Bebop Jazz, Underground Disco, Afrobeat, Batucada, Samba, Salsa, Soul - world rhythms with an electronic influence. Larry Levan, John Beltran, Osunlade, Masters At Work, David Mancuso, Fela Kuti, - music with a message. Oh . . . and that one girl from Ipanema.

Movies:

What The Bleep Do We Know, Maestro, Hackers, Groove, Monty Python, Matrix, The Passion of the Christ

Television:

I could do without television except The Simpsons, Seinfield and Sex in The City (notice the unintentional "S" pattern going on here)

Books:

Bible, Love Saves The Day by Tim Lawrence, Last Night a DJ Saved My Life, Keep On Dancin': My Life and the Paradise Garage by Mel Cheren, The Cosmic Serpent: DNA and the Origins of Knowledge by Jeremy Narby, The Price of a Gift by Mohatt and Eagle Elk, Celestine Prophecy, The Science of God by Schroeder
