Toolbox !Music has always been my first love. I remember falling in love when I was just a child, sitting in my grandmother's house, listening to the jazz songs of yesterday. "Music is the speech of angels." My grandmother always said that to me when I expressed my love of music and wanted to know more, wanted to begin singing. And now, here I am, one of the most prestigous and well known jazz singers of the modern music world. I'm Susan Zangara, better known to my fans and my audiences as Sylvia Santino. I was born on December 15th, 1925 in the beautiful city of Palermo, Sicily. My father, a wealthy land owner, was well known, even in the United States, for his Italian wines. His distribution business kept us on our feet and gave me the best during my childhood. In 1935, a few of his brothers took a chance, packed up their belongings and made the move to the United States, more specifically Little Italy in Cleveland,Ohio. They quickly made mob connections and, in 1937, their families joined them and their mafia way of life. My parents, wanting nothing to do with the mafia, decided not to leave Palermo, and, to this day, they continue to work, distributing wine and running their vineyard. However, I knew deep in my heart that I wanted to make the move to America and pursue my dream as a jazz singer. Once my cousin, Sonny Palermo, moved from Little Italy to New York and had settled down, he invited me to America. I took everything I owned, threw it into a few suitcases, and made my way across the Atlantic Ocean. I settled into a small apartment in lower Manhatten and began working at a small jazz club primarily occupied by the mafia and their associates. Before I knew it, word had spread of my talent and all of the big mafia bosses were coming to see my routine: Frank Costello, Albert Anastasia, Al Capone and even Carlo Gambino himself. Once I had the opportunity to travel and perform in cities such as Chicago and Detroit, I began to make friends in the industry. I was living the dream I had always imagined, performing with and rubbing elbows with the likes of Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, and even Old Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. Once I had a few years under my belt, my cousin, Sonny, and myself opened up a Jazz Bar called Club Corbos, located in downtown New York. A tasteful and elegant atmosphere, our club opens its doors to all patrons from all backgrounds, giving everyone a chance to experience the atmosphere that a love of a jazz music can offer. Now, aside from working in the night club in which I call my own, I want everyone to realize I'm a tough broad and I rarely take no for an answer. I've learned to be a hard headed business woman with a sense of class and style that cannot be duplicated. The big city, and America in general, is everything I imagine and more, and I intend on keeping myself happy and care free for all of my days. Currently I have a special love interest for the Prime Minister himself; Mr. Frank Costello. Although I am a tough cookie who is very picky about the men I date, Frank is one dependable man who I have grown to love and respect very much. So if you're interested in having a good time, meeting some wonderful people, and maybe even learning more about my music, give me a call. Or, if you're in the neighborhood, feel free to stop by! I'm always looking to meet new people and see new places.
