"A man for all times"
His voice echoes the love in his heart and the consciousness he has attained through years of experience. The deep seeded emotions of his music are clearly evident in both his stage performance and the body of recordings amassed over a 25-year career.
Little Sydney Francis was born in May of 1957 to Wilfred and Veronica Francis. He grew up with four brothers and three sisters in the family's Barbican home and attended church on a regular basis. "Music filled my house", noted Mankind, as both his parents were good singers.
Church was the foundation of Mankind's musical career. As a young man, he sang at the Church of God and later at New Day Primary School and Grant Private High. His interest in music moved from passive to active "from the day I heard Dennis Brown sing," he noted.
At 19, Mankind became the lead singer of Food Clothes and Shelter, a local cover band that toured the island on both the cabaret and traditional reggae circuit. Their first release "No Yourself Mankind" established both the years of nationwide performing, the band split. The incident forced mankind take a serious stock of his career and led him to the decision that he alone must control his destiny.
Mankind personally invested in his career by producing his own records. His signature effort, "Only One King and Maximum Amount of Love" were well received in the market, spawning music videos aired on local television. A slew of other release including "Dem a Gal", " Armshouse", "Nuh tek Back Shout", "How long Was Your Love", "Country Man", and "Dance With Me" followed.
His collaboration with star producers Steelie and Clevie of Studio 2000 yielded "Hard Ears Pickney" and "Gully Bank", while Patrick Roberts of shocking Vibes produced "No Lobe"
His performing career has been as active as the recording one. He appeared on Resurrection 2000 and the Red Stripe Road shows to name a few. Mankind has performed in Negril, Montego Bay, Port Antonio and the Bob Marley Centre. He has opened for two-time Grammy Award winning Bennie Man and Reggae crooner Eddie Fitroy at venues across the island.
When not immersed in music, Mankind is a dedicated father, an avid farmer, builder and businessman. He unwinds with the occasional football match and loves to catch a swim from time to time.
His extensive catalogue of work closely reflects who he is. ' I am conscious and very loving', he explains.
Mankind aspires to be recognized as a name with wholesome lyrics and soulful music to stir the soul and move the feet.
A new saga has begun and Mankind has introduced his label "Depth of Art" with the new release "God's Children"
