PLATINUM SELLING R&B STAR KELLY PRICE SHOWS THE WORLD
WHO SHE IS BY RETURNING TO HER ROOTS WITH GOSPEL CD
Grammy nominated, award-winning singer, songwriter and producer Kelly Price is going back to her gospel roots with her upcoming CD This Is Who I Am.. The CD, which will be released by Gospocentric/EcclectiSounds through Zomba Gospel on October 24th 2006, is a labor of love for Kelly.
I am a Church kid. I was raised on gospel music and both my parents were preachers. I see this album as an expansion of my God-given talents and I hope my fans will treasure these very special songs, says New York-born Price.
The first single from the new CD is Healing, which is already making a strong impression at radio and with fans. Other tracks from the album will include: The Love Medley, Nobody But Jesus, What A Friend, and God is Faithful.
Kelly Price is the second of three children born to the late Rev Joseph Price and Evangelist Claudia Price and raised in Queens, New York. At an early age Kellys musical talents began to dominate her life. One day after experiencing deep sadness from a book she read for a black history project in school, Kelly wrote a song to express her unexplainable emotions. This was her first song. She was just 7 years old.
Kelly sang on her first recording before the age of 10 and by the time she was 18 Kelly was recording and touring the world with multi-platinum pop diva Mariah Carey. Always a quick study, Kelly watched and learned the intricacies of studio and production work and soon after began to expand into areas other than just background singing. It is these early years of her professional career that Kelly refers to as her formal education.
While her classmates attended college to prepare for their careers, she went to work everyday and studied with the entertainment industrys best - to prepare for what would soon be her own amazing career. Kelly has shared her multiple musical gifts with many artists and reached the number one spot on billboard several times before anyone even knew what the girl behind the voice and the pen looked like.
Throughout her career Kelly has sung for, recorded with, toured with, written songs for, and arranged and produced music for artists including: Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Brian McKnight, Mary J Blige, P. Diddy, Brandy, Donnie McClurkin, The Williams Brothers, Yolanda Adams, Whitney Houston, Mary Mary, The Notorious B.I.G, Richard Smallwood, R. Kelly, Eric Clapton, Wynona Judd, and the legendary Ronald Isley.
It was through a formal alliance with Isley, that Kelly established herself as a recording artist. Her solo career was launched with the album Soul of A Woman in 1998 that featured the ..1 smash womens anthem of the year Friend of Mine, penned by Kelly.
Out of the box she broke chart records by reaching Billboards top spot twice with the same song all done without the benefit of a music video. Kelly also helped to usher in the rebirth of the Gospel sound in mainstream and R&B music.
During this period, she also battled with her weight. She talks about having to battle the entertainment industrys stance that said no one wants to look at a fat girl sing, no matter how good she sounds.
Millions of albums later this award winning, Grammy nominated, singer, songwriter, producer, actress and now author is still breaking down barriers. As well as her upcoming CD this fall, Kelly is also currently touring the country promoting her new book Inscriptions of My Heart.
