Influences: Lately I've come to realize that my Grandfather has been my main influence. Certainly not in a musical sense, but my inspiration to keep going when the shit hits the fan. He was in WW2 for 2 terms. He was shot while in Fiji and suffered from starvation, malaria, and awful dehydration as a result of eating nothing but green pineapples for days. He was an awesome boxer, but he told his sargeant that he couldn't possibly hit a man with all of his strength. He was afraid he would kill someone. He tried to save a woman from a house fire, and ended up burned over most of his body. He spent months in the hospital, but I just remember my Grandpa having tough skin when I was a kid. He told my parents that I was exceptional and belonged in an advanced school. He spoiled the shit out of me, and took me to circuses and shows all the time. We visited his war buddies at Heinz hospital...I hated the smell there, and I often waited on a chair with nurses while he met his friends. Usually, we'd go to the cookie factory after that and buy giant bags of cookies. They would eventually be the demise of him though. The doctor told him not to eat those...just eat fruit. We tried to have a fruit picnic once, but we ended up having cookies later. My Grandfather was sweeping up at the post office in Lombard Illinois one day, and he straightened up, yelled his neighbor Jack's name, and died. I was in 4th grade and I'll never forget my teacher announcing to the whole class that my Grandpa died. So despite all this divorce bullshit I'm going through, my living situation, my boring job. I think of what he might be saying to me right now while he hugs me and pats my back. Sometimes it upsets me, but the memory of my Grandfather keeps me going through the toughest of times.
