About Me

What happens when a group of determined young men have a dream they wish to fulfill and a goal that seems somewhat unreachable? In the case of this story, CampSoul Music was born. Russell Morgan and Troy Crossfield first met in 2000 while working on a track through a mutual friend. A connection was formed and they became instant friends. Together, Troy and Russell had many creative ideas for music. Over the next few years, Russell continued to produce and Troy went on to form the R&B group, Selfish, with fellow members Omar Hinds and Stevie Stevens. In 2003 Selfish was signed to Onasys Records and moved to New York. Russell remained in Toronto, working on production for the group. While in New York, Selfish struggled with the wheeling and dealing of the big city life and saw first hand how artists were treated when trying to obtain the record deal of a lifetime. Troy realized that there had to be an easier way. The group returned to Toronto and discussions began with Russell about how they could continue to pursue their dreams while eliminating the middleman. In 2004, it was time to change the game. The idea to form a Music Production company was conceived. Meanwhile, Troy, with Omar from Selfish added to the mix, began to fine tune the songwriting and vocal arrangement for Selfish and other up and coming artists.Today, CampSoul Music is currently working on projects for local artist and artist south of the border. They are also working on their own roster from their Independent Record Label CampSoul Music. Unlike some R&B and hip-hop producers, the duo doesn't heavily rely on samples.
