Musician - Artist - Amateur anthropologist - Theosophist. Loves: anything related to pattern spotting, being that art (take note that art comes from the Greek, Artis meaning special [also in technical way]), music (I like harmonically sound music - and am particularly averse to cheesy/cliched chord progressions. And I gravitate towards anything that is true science (not necessarily contempary science as that is governed by the same forces that control our churches!!! - I am not a dogmatic person - except when it comes to trying not to kill anything for the sake of my consumption.... !
ABOUT THE ARTIST
At college, Lim-Lim was very technical in her artistic expression, drawing only very architecturally and accurately, with her subjects usually buildings, people and insects. She was fortunate to train in her late teens with an etymological illustrator and could easily sit for 6 hours drawing intricately follicle by follicle a butterfly’s wing. In her early 20’s she embarked on a more inward journey and started to create heavily from her imagination and knowledge of world symbols that transcend the man made borders that we know. This has made her work universally agreeable. Drawing her inspiration from numerous sources, including her in-depth knowledge of musical harmony, the wide range of literature she reads, her cross cultural/anthropological studies in general and a particularly keen interest in the study of nature’s laws, she breathes her interpretation of life through the medium of a fine liner pen, pencils, watercolour, acrylic and oil paints. Occasionally work is taken to a further stage of development on the computer. Her work’s purpose is to open the inner mind of the viewer. That is the mind that rests it’s consciousness between the still contemplation of the unfolding soul and the spirit which breathes it’s light into the lessons of life.

ABOUT THE MUSICIAN

Lim-Lim's first love in life is music. Having been reading music from the age of four, she is certainly well-trained, specializing in the harmonic resonance of sound. By nine, she was studying piano, flute and composition at the junior department of The Royal College of Music, London and later at fourteen moved to Trinity College of Music for a change. She is well-versed in all genres classical (renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic and contemperary).
Lim-Lim has a great interest in the history of the production of sound. Since her early twenties, she has started to explore the world of music and modern technology and has a great respect and awe at the functions of immediate playback of our modern age. In her teenage years, before being introduced to electronic sounds, she was listening mostly to folk/punk rock and performed and wrote for such a band. In her late teens, she started to frequent events specialising in electronic music. She was hooked and in 2000, started to promote her own monthly events, Natural Order.
In 2003, with her partner, Vlado, they established the psychedelic trance record label, Pukka Music, gradually releasing collections of good music from those in the psychedelic trance scene from around the globe. Although not a disc jockey, Lim-Lim has spent the last few years developing her knowledge in music production of the times. They will not limit themselves solely to the full-on, and will soon be releasing an excellent chilled/global beats cd later this year.
So, watch out for AHARA, a new act, where Lim-Lim and Vlado combine their talents to create new, funky, yet harmonically classic tracks through a range of electronic genres. AHARA is Sanskrit for food/nutrient. It can mean food on a gross/physical level, on the level of the psyche/imagination or just simply food for the awaking of the spirit (ahara sutti).

NOTE FROM THE ARTIST

For anyone who enjoys the art here and for anyone with the urge to create in this doodling way, then get a rough book for life! A book you take everywhere with you - write anything and everything there - draw what you please. Know that you can stick the pages together with masking tape if something not for the viewing of others is created. And spot the patterns in everything - in an old peeling wall, find the faces.... etc.... I only used to draw photographically, and have spent the past four years exploring just "making things up!" (or seeing what comes out from the experience I've had, info I've read). It's really a mind relaxation process. I call it tuning out and therefore in! Have fun! It's a great thing to do if you catch yourself 5 minutes spare sitting around at some point doing not too much in general...
Painting, drawing (and one day I hope sculpting) are all passive arts - they encourage me to listen to life. Music is an active art, encouraging me to express all I've experienced. Poetry is the art of figuring the psychology and philosophy of the survival of life. And yoga is art for my body ... (and the tuning in of it with mind and spirit) - don't forget there is the yoga of everything, including the stars! - it is merely about finding the true science of things. You don't have to get too dogmatic about things either! - more important is you to find your autonimous frequency strong - and that your reasoning makes true sense to you. I am at an early stage in all these journeys. It's a great ride. (:

Music:

Descriptive music - theatrical music - real music - dance music - any genre - any style - but it has to have soul / spitit / groove - I like trance and live, work and dance there, as it is the community I have grown up in. To be honest, much of what is around is a little too formulaic for my liking - I have never liked house music due to this(except some of the old acid/deep house). I recently went to an electro-breaks party and some of the music was excellent with fab production - and I loved the way it made me move in a totally fresh way. Basically, as long as the music has life, well-automated ideas and nothing hurting my brain - whether cheese or really noisy noise (was never a Messian fan), then I'm a happy bunny. I like music of any genre that could be considered "classic". With regards music of the old school (orchestral), I generally like baroque (only got appreciation after listening to trance for all these years - the incessent semiquavers and inversions and I love the harmonies they were using in general in the period - now, for the first time in 20 years, I actually enjoy playing Bach's Preludes and Fugues), the classical period does not interest me so much - a little standard and dull, pompous melodies and obvious chordal structures - too many rules - too strict, though some nice music came from there. Must say, I always loved the romantic era - the development of the Full orchestra, brass instruments with valves, pianos not sounding stringy, the yearning harmonies - so much emotive music around there. I never liked Beethoven as a kid, but when I hear now, I have a great respect for the job he helped with, changing things over from the classical to the romantic age. So, all in all, I would say any good music from any genre - and exact preference will depend on the moment in which I'm being asked. Am currently having fun with the classics - playing Mendlesson's Rondo and Capriccioso, learning Claire De Lune by Debussy as I always loved it and never learnt that one when I was a kid.Now I have found the computer, I no longer write to manuscript. Logic is a dream - when I made my first riff, I thought of all those composers past - any of them would have had a ball with this immediate playback - Wow! I advise everyone to have a go. Music is an active art necessary to survival. Music is certainly a universal language. Harmony is everything to me.

Television:

Educational documentaries and programs that are genuinely funny. That's about it. I detest the 16k-hertz buzz any TV set emits. UGGGGGHHH!

Books:

Too many to mention - (i think if you are going too read at all, it is important to be widely read)- Daniel Quinn wrote some good ones, the Tibetan book of the living and dying is a MUST read, Michael Baigent has written some interesting stuff, though I do not agree with all his hypothesies. The book of Knowledge by JJ Hurtack is fascinating - still working through it gradually over the years! The 12th Planet by Zecharia Sitchin - great archeological facts from Mesopotamian era - Wow! Very Enlightening - oh, and the only so-called channelled book I truly enjoyed is one called "the cosmic dance" by Julie Soskiin - channelled or not, it feels right and good!!! Oh, and of course, the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tse has aided me along my path... Recently was reading Richard Templar's bestsellers - they are full of great life advice in simple swallowable sections.

Heroes:

Anyone with a giant heart and no fear to use it.
