Some background on who I am…
...other than writing/publishing and documentary film making, I am a musician/singer/songwriter for the band RÉUNION which I formed with long-time friend Duncan Mackay (ex10cc/Kate Bush/Alan Parsons Project -UK), I intend to tour the world with this band promoting and involving indigenous peoples in the performances which will be geared to highlight humanitarian and environmental issues including campaigning for animal rights both in Africa and internationally.
My story is a long one, so for the purposes of this introduction, I will keep it as short as possible, I use my talents and creative abilities to promote environmental and humanitarian issues... my main objective is to prove to people the world over, that animals indeed have “souls” !!!
My journey in this direction led me to having a profound experience in the bush with a leopard, this experiential encounter with a wild predator set me on a path to discover more and eventually helped me to confirm my belief about the existence of the “animal soul” and to discover the profound dynamic of “soul exchange” called “The Magik of the Hunt” a natural interactive dynamic of the wilderness which has been scientifically documented by many paleontologists who have observed this "phenomenon" as depicted in ancient cave paintings and carvings which have been found in various locations around the world dating back as far as 35,000 years.
I knew all along that animals were conscious "beings" – Indigenous tribes such as the "Khoisan" and some surviving rainforest peoples, still have a very special connection to the "animal spirit" which they respect and live in harmony with. This kind of "respect" is precisely what I found to be lacking in "Western" society - we have no respect, regard for, or remote recognition of the existence of the "animal soul", we have been so marginilized in fact, that few of us even believe in the existence of our very own "human souls".
I was further surprised to find out that many so-called “Western” religions actually refute the fact that animals do have souls...and so we "Western" people have inherited over a very long time, a very convenient excuse which allows us to simply and ignorantly continue "harvesting" animals as a resource... this is how my battle against consumerism was begun.
A result of all this, and after 3 years of research, I decided to make the documentary entitled “Planet Lion - Of Legends and Kings” which will uncover many mysteries and ancient records of the human-animal interaction over time, many of which have been forgotten. The lion will be the featured “animal”, fitting because we humans refer to the lion as being the “King of Beasts” - representative of the entire animal kingdom.
The content of this documentary effectively shows how indigenous people have historically lived in harmony with the wilderness, and explains many of their age-old values and traditions which hopefully will help to reintroduce an understanding of ancient wisdom and will promote a renewed interest and value for our wilderness and its endemic creatures to Western viewers.
Worthlessness remains the largest affliction suffered by detribalized, industrialized "western" people today, and if we can teach people to value their wilderness, animals and other creatures, maybe we stand a remote chance of instilling a sense of self -worth back into society, and can thereby assist to curb this self-destructive phenomenon.
In my opinion this is our only real hope - to get people to value themselves independantly oncemore.
Making this documentary and bieng based in South Africa has not been without its challenges, and we still require further development funding or any other help we can get, in order to complete our pilot episode – any help offered along these lines would be very much appreciated!
As you may have guessed, I am also a very spiritual person and walked away from all material possessions (scary) about 5 years ago, (after my father died on 11 Sept 2001) it was this that caused me to look for something deeper and more meaningful, a subsequent exploration into matters which concerned the "afterlife" eventually enabled me to discover my own soul and find my soul path...
As an activist for "Indigenous Peoples" rights, I believe that indigenous people the world over hold the key to living in "balance" with our natural surroundings...they are also a highly threatened endangered species!
Thank you for having the patience to read this, and for letting me share a brief excerpt of my story with you. Please take the time to watch the video on this page and leave a comment. If you would like to know any more, send me an e-mail and I will gladly answer whatever questions you may have.
Take care
Greg McEwan

Movies:

The death of a "Lion King"

Many people have asked me what "canned lion" hunting is all about. This video clip is an example of "canned" hunting, and was shot and put into the public domain by a lion breeder/hunting operator in order to acquire customers to hunt on his farm in South Africa. Canned hunting basically means the shooting of captive-born predators within a confined area where there is no hope of escape. These animals have mostly been hand-reared and so trust humans, they don't run away. This practise has been declared illegal in South Africa. Television:

I am involved in the creative side of the film/animation business as a result of my musical involvement and so tend to watch a lot of movies, I find however that nowadays the subject matter is a little weak, the real stories just don't seem to make it out there anymore...
