Alison Jacobs was named Metroland Magazine's 2006 Best Female Vocalist and it's easy to see why! She is a deft and soulful singer (and songwriter) of many styles who was nurtured around music and always had an appreciation and deep affinity for blues. Her father, Doug Jacobs, was a keyboardist/trumpeter/singer-songwriter for Decca and Capitol recording artist Whitney Sunday back in the late 60's and early 70's. He also co-owned J.B. Scott's, the legendary Albany, NY nightclub (late 70's to early 80's). Alison saw performances and met such profound artists as Junior Wells, Count Basie, John Lee Hooker, James Cotton, Buddy Rich, Roy Buchanan, Elvin Bishop and countless other influences.She has shared the stage with talented musicians - from Bavaria to California and back across the states to the East Coast. In 2000 at a Performance Racing Industry (the company for which she worked while in California) trade show in Indiana, Alison took the stage at a kick-off party for over 4000 attendees and wowed the audience with her vocal power. In return trips to Indianapolis, she would join The Gordon Bonham Blues Band for some tunes at The Slippery Noodle Inn. After returning to New York in 2002, she became entrenched in the local music scene, singing blues & rockabilly with Ali Jean and The Struts, Johnny Rabb and the Jailhouse Rockers, The Stony Creek Band, 44 Blues, Rocky Velvet, and The Lustre Kings (a band that had built a reputation on the East Coast for backing Wanda Jackson).In 2005, she teamed up with the young impressive guitarist, Matt Mirabile and won the 2005 Northeast Blues Society's Colossal Contenders Competion which secured them an invitation to compete at the 2006 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. In 2006, they released their self-produced debut album, Matt Mirabile and Alison Jacobs, 50fifty, featuring 11 new, original tunes, 10 of which Alison penned (or co-penned).
