Julio Gilberto Artist Profile/Julio Gilberto Martínez was born in Costa Rica, and began his guitar studies at age 13.He has studied with numerous and highly respected Flamenco Guitarists, most notably Alberto Lucena, 1st Prize Winner of the XVI National Contest of Córdoba, Spain.He has performed throughout San Diego and Southern California since 1996 with his own ensemble, as well as an accompanist to other artists and several Flamenco Dance Companies.Host venues have included:Street Scene 1999/2000 Humphreys Backstage/ Newport Beach Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel / Del Mar Fairgrounds Parallel 33/ Morgan Run, Del Mar/ En Fuego/ The Lodge at Torrey Pines/ Aubergine Olé Madrid/ Hotel Del Coronado/ Café Sevilla/Additionally, Julio has performed at hundreds of private engagements.Through unique contacts and a solid reputation built amongst some of Southern Californias finest musicians for over a decade, he has assembled a brand new, modern group of exceptional musicians who are not hesitant to embrace the future while preserving the integrity of a style of music that has spanned centuries and currently enjoys a prominent place on the world stage.Work has already begun on the recording of his debut album, due to be released in December 2008.
