The D-Boyz are a production unit comprised of members Lethal D; multi-instrumentalist, and DJ M.u.T.T. aka Dr Claw; turntablist, producer and master drum programmer. Their combined sound is a powerful blend of live instruments, sampled loops, electronic beats, east coast grittiness and west coast funk, taking a dynamic new stance on the hip-hop fight card. Two different backgrounds, two different coasts, each with it’s own respective style, blending together in perfect harmony…
Dj M.u.T.T (Dara Miller), was raised in the spirit of the diverse San Francisco music scene and began Djing his own sets on the club circuit at the age of 17. He started producing his own beats early on in High School and garnered some street recognition working with local artists such as B.I.G. from Bored Stiff (a local legendary group). He cites influences like Q-Bert, Premier and Dj Grandmaster Flash in his mixing and production style. M.u.T.T.’s seamless blend of hard hitting hip-hop and essential R&B grooves stretch across many genres, making his particular skills extremely sought after in the underground and mainstream production world.
On the opposite side of the country, Lethal-D (Dave Sherman) found a similar interest in hip-hop at a young age. Hailing from a musical family, Lethal grew up in Boston surrounded with the sounds of east-coast hip-hop luminaries such as Wu-Tang Clan, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and others. While studying guitar at Berklee College of Music, Lethal soon became in-demand on the Boston hip-hop scene, doing everything from playing sessions, to engineering and production for a multitude of local artists. His abilities on the guitar, bass, keys and drums created the perfect foil for DJ M.u.T.T’s hard driving beats and boundless creative energy.
Since releasing their 2003 underground debut, in the form of MC Exposition’s first solo effort, “The Metroâ€, The D-Boyz repertoire has expanded across many lines, reaching into TV and Film production. Recent works include production for artists such as Dipset, Special Teamz, Freddro Starr of ONYX, Canibus, Fyuzion NDX (Tilo&Roscoe) as well as up-and-coming talent such as Jake the Snake, Big Speks, Prone 2, and Loose Notes.
Additionally, The D-Boyz constitute a large portion of the writing team for the live hip-hop band, Audible Mainframe. Equally at home onstage as in the studio, the D-Boyz have performed with the likes of Slick Rick, Tone Loc, Biz Markie, Damian Marley, Arrested Development, Boot Camp Clik and a host of other hip-hop legends.
When not on tour with Audible Mainframe, the D-Boyz are in the lab or on the streets. Their next concoction just might be the one you've been looking for...
