She is the youngest of three sisters and one brother. You could say Sandra Kay received her country roots from her Mother and Father. Mr. Franklin, who was born and raised in Oklahoma, was a regular participant in the Oklahoma rodeo. Mr. and Mrs. Franklin made sure Sandra was acquainted with the freshness of the country, by making regular summer visits to her grandfather farm where her father grew up. Sandra Kay smiles as she reminisces, “We couldn’t get any other station on the radio but country music whenever we traveled…. So country music became a part of me…now it’s in my heart…. it’s in my soul.â€Sandra Kay was born to sing. She began singing when she was able to speak. She received her start in the church choir. When not singing in the choir, Sandra was attracting crowds in front of the house, where she would sing to the neighborhood. When Sandra was 6 years old she had her first public engagement. The nervous little Ms. Kay sang “The Woman in the Moon†by Barbra Streisand to two hundred AT&T employees. This performance opened the doors to regular public appearances.When Sandra Kay was 13 years old she and her older sister followed R & B singer Bobby Womack back to his hotel after he finished his concert performance. Sandra Kay laughs as she tells the story. “When we got to the hotel, I jumped out of the car and ran up to him. Mr. Womack, I said while grabbing his hand, would you please listen to me sing please. He said, come back in the morning, meet me in the cafeteria at 9am. My mom, step dad, and sister met Mr. Womack in the cafeteria and he invited us to have breakfast with him and his wife. I of course, was too nervous to eat. After everyone finished eating we went to his room where I sang, “The Woman in the Moon†for Mr. Womack. He told me he liked my voice and had great potential. He stated that I had a unique voice, and how it sound very country, he said as he laughed out loud. He told us he would contact me in a few weeks. Mr. Womack contacted my mom as he promised, and expressed how he would like for my mom and me to come to LA and work on getting some music going. My mother declined. After careful consideration, she decided I was too young at the timeâ€.Sandra Kay continued singing in talent shows at school, and around town. She entered many talent contests. Sandra Kay had her first child at age 17. She dropped out of school. She later earned her GED. She had her second child at age 21.Sandra Kay continued to sing whenever and wherever she got the chance. Sandra Kay performed at a night club for the first time, when she was 17 at Ollie’s Roundup in Denver, Colorado. Sandra Kay made several appearances there. When she was 18 years old she met Colorado and Europe Country music great, Mr. Rudy Grant, Of Knawbone Records. She took advantage of an “open mic†night Mr. Grant was hosting at a Bar called “Zanza Bar.†Mr. Grant took Sandra Kay into his wings. Sandra Kay performed weekly at local Colorado Country music hot spots.Sandra Kay decided to take a break from the music scene after several years of performing. She felt it was beat to continue her education. Sandra got married and had two children. Sandra Kay could not seem to break away completely from the music scene. She continued to perform at different events, while trying to maintain a household. Sandra Kay divorced after six years of marriage. As a single mother of four children, Sandra Kay cared for four children, worked full-time, while attending college full-time. She earned her Associate degree, and Bachelor Degree.“Following your heart†has always been Sandra Kay’s attitude. “Country Music is a part of me, without it I feel like a part of me is missing, I feel incomplete.†With her education and family life intact, Sandra Kay has finally come home. She credits her musical influence to, Patsy Cline, Reba McEntire, Loretta Lynn, Tanya Tucker, Wynonna Judd, Trisha Yearwood, Patty Lovelace, Shelby Lynn, and Michele Wright to name a few. Sandra expresses how all country singers old and new has had an influence in how she relates and expressed her style.Sandra Kay now performs regularly with Mr. Rudy Grant. Sandra Kay has a fresh authentic, genuine, natural country voice. Keep an eye out for this up and coming new edition to Country music. Her voice will warm your heart and put a smile on your face.
