After setting the foundation as an artist and producer first, Oak Cliff Assassin and Henry Peoples launched Lock Down Records in 1991. Die 4 Da Bass was the first single released by Oak Cliff Assassin on his label. A joint venture was formed in 1993 with VIP Records of Denton, Texas. The debut was a compilation CD entitled Out On Parole. In 1994, the Oak Cliff Assassin broke out his self-produced cassette EP, Da Funky Hitman. Lock Down/Midwest kicked off 1996 with Wassup Wit It?, the underground classic, by the Lock Down Inmates, which consisted of O.C.A., Godfather, Kanine, L-Double-E, Mista Dre, MX2, and ROC. O.C.A. established himself as one of the top underground artist when he dropped his second solo release, HATER FREE, in 1997. In 1998, he also unveiled the compilation O.C.A presents DIRTYTOWN DALLAS. He introduced all the artists on the label with O.C.A. presents LOCK DOWN CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES WHO GONE DO DA FOOL LIKE US? The Lock Down Inmates (featuring Strict-9) bombed the music scene in 99 with the hottest group album yet, Da Drama Continues.
In 2000, O.C.A. returned Lock Down Records to the streets with the debut CD, 4 Death, by the Humiside Soldiers (fronted by Kanine). He began 2001 by signing a new distribution deal for Lock Down Records with SELECT-O-HITS (Street Level), in Memphis, Tennessee. O.C.A. released his third solo CD, TARGET PRACTICE. In 2002, the Lock Down Music. The label made its first internet only release, Countdown 2 Destruction by the C.B.P. & Strict-9. 1992: MURDER OR MUZIK?, the previously unreleased Oak Cliff Assassin CD containing his very first recordings, hit retail stores nationwide in December. 2003 kicked the 2003 UNDERGROUND CLUB TOUR. After spending two years on road, Lock Down hit the streets again. Kanine was raw and uncut on his 2005 CD West Dallas Virus.
To advance even further on the business side in 2006, K.P. joined graphic designer LaNesha Lacey to form BIG PICTURES, a graphics and promotions company for independent artists and labels with small budgets. The compilation, OAK CLIFF ASSASSIN & KANINE presents WE FROM DA SAME CLICK, hit stores with a vengence. Riding the buzz of the single and title track, We From Da Same Click featuring Kanine, Mack Note, and Godfather, Oak Cliff Assassin has become a pioneer of the underground rap scene once again. With three new CDs coming, (SUPER CRUNK, SUPER SCREWED, DONT GET YO FEELINGS HURT), you better watch out. Super crunk hits stores September 26th. It will be free the first week!
