Nimrod is the work of Kev Walker, a songwriter/musician based in Brisbane Australia. Progressive Rock is very special to me, Ive always felt that its great music for expressing yourself both musically and lyrically, musically it can veer off into various tangents and create wonderful moods that can transcend the mind. It can/is a very creative genre. All my life Ive had a love affair with music, even as a 5 year old I remember singing into a mirror with a feather duster as a make believe guitar, lame or what !! :-) My earliest hero was John Lennon, My older brother bought all The Beatles and Rolling Stones records and I would secretly play them whenever he was out :-), I drooled over them, especially the later arty stuff like Pepper and the white album that was so creative, and wanted to be in a band myself. I promised myself I would learn to play an instrument one day. Later on I heard Pink Floyds first album, Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, I think I must have worn that one out I played it over and over again, my favourite track was Astronome Domine, the whole album though had a sense of surrealism that I really wanted to buy into, Then came bands like Yes, King Crimson, Moody Blues and BJH all releasing great great albums that I loved... Why Nimrod?? I never much liked classical stuff but one time this piece came on the radio, it was a really moving piece that Id heard before....somewhere, in the recesses of my mind I knew and loved this wonderfully moving music. Anyway eventually I went into a shop that sold such stuff and hummed it for the assistant, she told me it was by Edward Elgar, a bit of his great work, The Enigma Variations, the piece I had hummed was called Nimrod, all the variations described a particular freind of his, Nimrod represented A Jeager a close freind who had the qaulities of the mythical hunter called Nimrod who is told of in the bible. The reason it is called Enigma is that the whole work has a *grand* theme running throughout but EE never divulged what it was, some experts and musicologists have suggested Aulde Land Syne but thats by no means for sure.....Its still an Enigma!!I have played with various bands before deciding to branch out alone. Songs and Signs is my first solo album but Im sort of working on the follow up. I play everything on the album and I wrote the music. I'd like to give a mention and my sincere thanks to my friend in France, Adriatika for creating the beautifull artwork for my album, to see more of his great work, go to; http://www.anthares-creation.com/I love doing this stuff, if you like it please get in touch and let me know, if your a musician maybe we can discuss stuff.
