Debut Gig Hotel Warrnambool 3 Sept 06

About Me

Emily Kilkenny and Mic Murphy begun playing around the Warrnambool and district scene in November 2005 and quickly established a string of gigs in local pubs around the area. They secured gigs that following year at Mickey Bourke's Koroit Hotel over the Irish festival weekend and St Patricks Day and they also played at the Royal Oak Hotel in Port Fairy over the 2006 Folk Festival weekend.
Moving further a field the duo was invited to play live on Melbourne's Channel 31 in March 2006. Em and Mic played two songs live in the studio on "Barnaby Flowers", Channels 31's live comedy/sketch show. One of those songs being "I can't see you" which you can listen to by clicking the link above.
With Mic on guitar and Emily on violin the two shared the vocals, playing a range of folk, acoustic, Irish and Australian songs aswell as a list of original material. The duo made the natural next step of expanding to a band format. So included into the mix were Geoff Caine on bass (formally of Southern Sons) and Raff Marino on Drums (Zydegators) and the band Wahyu was born.
With the addition of Raff (drums) and Geoff, (bass) the new band took on a different musical shape to the duo and developed its sound as more of a folk/rock act; a sound which has proved popular among audiences at the gigs which the band has played to date. Some notable performances among these included St Patrick's Day at the Warrnambool Hotel, the Warrnambool Wunta Festival and the Koroit Irish Festival in 2007.
At the moment Wahyu is in the studio recording an album to be released in the near future, the first three tracks are online here (in short format) at our myspace, and we'll upload more as we get them hot from the mixing desk! Of coarse the best way to hear us is by getting along to a gig, so check out our gig listings and make a date of it! See you at the gig!
