I'd like to meet:
people that are GENUINE! surprise, surprise DC is in desperate need for more of these type of people. people that bring something new to the table. everyone is creative in their own way but so many refuse to admit it or embrace it. creativity frees the individual from submission by the masses. with the type of work that I do and the amount of time i spend there, it has become increasingly imperative that I surround myself with creative energy in order to keep my sanity!
Music:
probably the toughest to answer while maintaining brevity. I have varied tastes, depending on mood and crave exposure to new stuff. elliot smith, sound tribe, grateful dead, bob marley, buju banton, janis joplin, bob dylan, stevie wonder, david bowie, beck, willie nelson, blind melon, ben harper, robert randolf, blind boys of alabama, mos def, red hot chili peppers (thanks to clinton), thievery corp. (thanks to kate), antibalas, zero 7, thelonious monk, miles davis, talking heads, the meters, joni mitchell, eric clapton, ella fitzgerald, the clash, allman brothers, bb king, the beatles, and phish.
Movies:
Eternal Sunshine, Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Before Sunrise/Sunset, Cinema Paradiso, In America, Bottle Rocket, City of God, and many many more...I LOVE watching movies.
Television:
I view TV as mindless entertainment with few exceptions, those few exceptions (in my opinion) are Six Feet Under, Carnivale, American Experience (PBS), and of course American Idol :)! I'm obsessed with Am. Idol but am VERY disappointed in this year's crop of so-called talent. Shows that I like watching that fall into the mindless entertainment category are Cops, Police Videos, Blind Date or anything that comes on after 1:00am.
Books:
basically anyting that I am reading at the time besides work stuff...one flew over the cuckoo's nest, life of pi, confederacy of dunces, frankenstein, and I love reading biographies. Bob Dylan's was one of the most original that i have read. he broke out of the tired mold of telling your life's story...but what else did you expect?!
Heroes:
my mom, she is the greatest person on earth! my dog, he lifts my spirits when needed and keeps me on the path to responsibility yet has no idea he is doing that; my friends who are my extended family.
