Lester was born in 1079 as a servant, and was largely disregarded as a runtish kitchen worker until one day when he was thirteen, serving soup to the Baron who ran the keep, and the baron discovered a fly in his soup. Lester quipped "Be quiet sir, or they'll all want one", and thus a new comedic career (and a truly terrible joke) was born. As it turned out, his comedy career was somewhat haphazard, and he turned to booze and tried to scrape a living together on the tavern comedy circuit, although comedy was something he turned out to be unfeasibly bad at - the fly in the soup joke should have given it away.
He was found one morning after one such unsuccessful gig by Cassius, a rock golem who claimed to be older than the hills (in fact, MADE from the hills), and a living God. Cassius took him under his wing, offered him shelter, and tried to wrangle him a recording contract. The two of them started saving up for a house, and gathered a rather impressive array of bricks, hence the name eventually given to the band.
The deal was sealed when they met Kasimir Svettirssen, the Skald Of Love. Kasimir had apparently "fallen from above" at some point in the past, as a gift to women everywhere. As it turned out, a part of his seduction technique involved being able to play guitar and sing better than anyone else in The Bricks (possibly anyone else ever). And thus the band was formed. Starting out with some material they'd co-written with, or nicked from, some dead guy, they set out to offend, entertain, stroke their own egos and attempt to woo pretty much anything that moved.
Their first albumic offering, "A Brick Over Troubled Mortar" still stands as the greatest opus of Satirical Viking Folk ever recorded, but that's mostly because they haven't recorded their second album yet. When the opportunity arose for them to appear on MySpace alongside the people they influenced so heavily centuries later - the likes of Spinal Tap, Stephen Lynch, Mitch Benn and Tenacious D - they jumped at the chance. Well, they sat up slightly and looked vaguely interested, at least...
