THE BAND

Sean Croley (Keys and Lead Vocals)

Since 1991, Sean has been heard across Canadian airwaves either singing his own songs, singing jingles, or supporting other Canadian artists with his solid, unique background vocal offerings.

Sean began his career after graduating from Fanshawe Colleges Music Industry Arts (M.I.A.) program where he studied recording engineering and music production. After he graduated, he immediately started his own studio that not only allowed him to help local bands to craft their own projects but more importantly, allowed him to work on his original material. During that time, he hooked up with Juno Award winning producer J. Richard (Rick) Hutt (Northern Pikes, Tom Cochrane, Jamie Warren) from Cedartree Recording Studios. This began a long working relationship with Sean and Rick that saw Sean pairing up with such artists as Ken Munshaw, Jamie Warren, Beverley Mahood, and Giselle Brohman (From the country group Lace) along with a number of other artists that were recording at Cedartree. Sean can also be heard on a number of both radio and television jingles.

As word began to spread to the other studios in town of Sean's versatility as a vocalist, his plate became very full, very quickly. Sean began working at the acclaimed Waxworks studios, and AME studios alongside with producer Bruce Ellis, and Andrew Horrocks as well as The Walters Family Studios where Darren Walters (Engineer) had this to say about Sean after a session with country singer Jason McCoy:

"His vocal arrangements are always very professional and his pitch is better than anyone Ive worked with. Sean also has the ability to change the texture of his voice so all you really need in a vocal session is Sean. I look forward to working further with Sean and his many personalities."

---Darren Walters

Sean continued to write and record but chose to selectively withdraw from session work for a couple of years to both refine and re-define his songwriting style and his singing voice. It was during this time that Sean was asked to lead worship at the Kitchener Vineyard where he continued to grow as a worship leader and musician for 5 years until the church folded in late September '06.

"WALK", a storybook of songs will be the initial offering born out of personal triumphs, struggles, and a deep contemplation of his place in life over the past number of years.

Currently, The Weak Need is navigating with quiet determination and resolve on this expedition to "WALK"

***See press release II in the blog section as Sean was announced as a second time "TOP 5 FINALIST in an INTERNATIONAL song writing contest***

Guitar - Rob Brayshaw

****At a young age of 15, Rob began to show an interest in playing both guitar and drums and quickly began to acquire great skill at both. He decided at age 16 to channel that talent when he joined the band "Yesterdays Fat Kid".

This alone could not satisfy Robs appetite to play and Rob began to jam and play with anyone and everyone which only served to hone his skills even further. At 21, he joined another band called "Fighting The Fall". Drums seemed to be where his passion was. To date, Rob has played with such artists as Dave Lubin and acclaimed worship leader Andy Park.

In 2003, Rob decided to get married to his wife Rebecca. When 2005 came, "Vertical Skyline", the band that Rob was playing in decided to release their first CD and Rob has continued to play with them. It was just last year when Rob began to see the fruits of his labour as he was given a drum endorsement by TRS Drums (www.trscustomdrums.com) but most importantly, the birth of his daughter, Olivia.

Rob is excited at the opportunity to play guitar with "The Weak Need" and is eagerly awaiting the chance to get out and tour.****

Drums - Shayne Laity

****After studying music at Trinity Western University and later graduating from the Worship and Creative Arts program at Hillsong International Leadership College (Sydney, Australia), Shayne returned to his home in Hamilton, Ontario. It was then, that he hooked up with 3 guys to form ‘One Rich Fool’ – an independent band which toured Canada and the USA over four years. During that time, Shayne recorded two projects with One Rich Fool, played and recorded with The Meeting House band, and more recently backed up renowned Christian worship leader Robin Mark for his Kitchener, Ontario appearances.

He has played with the Tehilah Toronto band under the direction of Allen Froese – taking their sound to a global youth gathering in Berlin, Germany in the summer of 2006. Shayne currently plays kit for the Waterloo Region Worship network and lives with his wife and best friend, Dana, in Kitchener, Ontario.****

Guitar - Joel McNee

As a child in a music loving family, it was natural for Joel to be constantly surrounded and influenced by all forms of music. At 5, he began playing drums and later guitar.

After learning to play guitar by listening and copying riffs from tape and LPs.. he played in several garage rock bands in high school then went on to study music at The Western Ontario Conservatory of Music, and also Audio / Visual Media production at Fanshawe College.

Several bands and stints were undertaken including some local band ensembles at the University of Western Ontario, two 6-month theatre arts projects at the Faculty of Education, and an original rock and roll project as the lead guitarist in the group 'Just in Time'.

Later, Joel also served as the guitarist for the CC house band at a large assembly in London Ontario, and also for the popular praise and worship band called 'Freedom' which did musical outreach and tent meetings.

Several years were taken away from music to concentrate on raising his children- Kyle 8, Grace 6 and Elisabeth Rose 1. During this time his career switched to Information Technology and graphic/web design.

More recently, he has been heard playing lead guitar with the P&W band at Morningstar Ministries in Wellesley Ontario and in other various original music projects and cover bands based in Kitchener-Waterloo.

Joel looks forward to once again cranking out his guitar rig and creating meaningful, original music. He can be found in his spare time in his studio on Dayna Crescent in Waterloo and loves to be by the water, at Lake Huron where he grew up.

Bass - Stephen Preston

Stephen was born in Hamilton, Ontario. The son of a preacher, he moved around Southern Ontario for much of his childhood. In 1981, his family moved to Oakville, Ontario and they settled in the area for the next fifteen years. It was in 1989 that Steve moved to Kitchener, Ontario to attend college, where he obtained his Bachelor degree in Religious Education.

Steve’s interest in music became evident at a young age. Quite often his parents would get him to sing in church, and this is where his love for music was first developed. He began taking piano lessons, and shortly after, began playing the violin. To this day, Steve would consider this his main instrument, as he has had the most formal training on it. He began his Honours Bachelor of Music with the violin as his major instrument, but found that this wasn’t the place for him at that time. At 15, he started playing bass in church with the encouragement of his parents. He soon realized that the bass was what he loved to play. Having not had any formal training on the bass, he learned by going to concerts and watching other players, then taking what he learned and applying it to his playing. Shortly after moving to Kitchener, he took up guitar, and has found this very practical for song writing and doing his own live music. Over time, he began getting asked to play in different events for people, and this has continued to this day.

Steve has played in a number of different groups and events. He has toured with the Continentals (a youth musical group that travels around the world), playing not only in the United States, but also Sweden, Poland, and the Baltic States. He played in a blues/classic rock band called Damascus for a few years, following that with a year at The Embassy. He then played with Disruption for 7 years and the band received multiple Covenant Award nominations from the Gospel Music Association Canada. He has done session work for a number of local acts and is quite active in leading music at the local church he attends.

Steve has a strong desire to influence and enable people in a positive way. He believes that truth is something that must be searched out and can be found, and as such, he desires to share what he has learned. He believes that everyone has a destiny they can attain, and that everyone has value and importance. Sometimes we just need to be reminded of these things.

Steve married his wife Tricia in 2005 and they love to travel the world together and help those in need through their talents and abilities.
