About Me

Brimming with ideas and with a burning desire to form a new band, Rime's Northern Ireland born guitarist Joe Hodgson knew exactly what he wanted to create but nothing of the extraordinary journey that lay ahead. Three years, a couple of singers, a couple of bass players, numerous recording sessions and a few tours down the line, their debut album “Something Better” is finished and ready for release. The band fronted by the amazing vocal talents of Melanie Padron, have delivered 15 songs abundant in hooks, crunching guitars and infectious grooves. out. The bands influences include the likes of Led Zeppelin, Foo Fighters, Thin Lizzy, Chilli Peppers and No Doubt and this blend of old school and modern rock defines the Rime sound.Rime almost came to an end in July 2007 when bass player Igor Guelman Zak tragically died aged 23. This came at a time when the band was looking for a new vocalist. “Igor’s death was the lowest point imaginable, a terrible time but it ended up really galvanising us.” says Joe. “I always remembered him saying to me ‘We need a crazy chick with an incredible voice, someone that blows us all away.’ Sure enough Igor’s words rang true and in August 2007 Melanie joined the ranks. Of Anglo/ Spanish origins, Melanie had been working as a solo singer in Tenerife but had recently returned to England in search of a new musical venture. She had honed her writing skills collaborating with the likes of Brinsley Forde of Aswad and Liberty X/Kenny Thomas songwriter Tony Delaney but her heart was always firmly rooted in rock and being in a band environment was what she craved. Mel says “Joining Rime has been a dream come true! The chemistry was instant, very special. We’re very liked minded people and we get on like a house on fire. It’s great to be part of this.”In September 2007, the band set about recording the album with their long time friend and producer George De Angelis (Seal, Rod Stewart, LeeAnn Rimes). Joe explains “I’ve written and recorded a lot with George on different projects over the years and he‘s been involved in Rime since day one. He always brings out the best in us, his input is magical”. As material like “Saviour”, “Wasted Time” and “Go Forth And Multiply” flowed, an electric atmosphere developed in the studio and it was clear to all that this collaboration was something special. A long journey that had started 3 years previously ended in a whirlwind 3 months of recording and by December 2007 Rime’s debut album “Something Better” was at last finished.Producer De Angelis says of Rime “These guys are special. They are great songwriters and musicians and in Mel, they have one of the most gifted singers I have ever had the pleasure of working with.”Since finishing the album the band has been hard at work gigging in UK shows and have just completed an Irish tour(May 2008). Rime will also be shooting a video for their first single in late July.
