ANYONE remember Betti Mac?Betti Mac who performed at various different shows in Kingston and the north coast of Jamaica the fashionable uptown girl who drew large crowds in the 90's doing renditions of Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Shania Twain and Britney-Spears songs.Well she's here in New York!
Betti Mac says that music will always be her first love and she is counting on her newest single, "You've Got Away" to launch her name here in the United States. The song is doing well since the release six months ago says Betti Mac in our interview and thanked everyone's support she added.Betti Mac, born in St. Andrew, Stony Hill, Jamaica, West Indies knew from an early age that she wanted to be an entertainer, at the tender age of six, I began telling my mom, I wanted to be a singer..." she reminisces," ... so, I began singing at school concerts even my schools graduations.One of my first appearances was Miss Lou's popular television show "Ring Ding," Betti Mac recalls, with a sad look on her face as she remembers. Mrs. Louise Benet Coverly a/k/a Miss Lou who passed on a few weeks prior to this interview, R.I.P. Thy Will Be Done, Betti Mac added.My parents weren't too happy with my career choice, so they encourage me to go to college, I went but I didn't stick with it, she said, as I asked her about school. But she is determined to follow her dream in spite of the way her parents and others felt about her decision.This led to performances at The Wyndam Hotel, New Kingston and lead vocalist experiences in Cabaret and Off Broadway Shows.After she won a talent competition at the popular night club "Epiphany" Betti Mac did her rendition in reggae of Crystal Gayle's, "Brown Eyes Blue", which was released on her first record label "Prosperity in Jamaica. In the 90s Betti then went on to do a combination of the same song with Peter Metro and a music video for the song. Her second single called Lucky was released in Jamaica in 2001; the song was originally done by Britney Spears which was popular on the compilation disc.
