About Me

Alan Springate had spent years toiling in the darker recesses of the Blues, crafting songs with his Red Regal Resonator.Initially, the idea was that Alan wanted to add some depth to these songs. Take them out and play them live. David Sanchez had recently rescued a badly treated Double Bass from almost certain death, and suggested that this might be the depth that Alan was looking for. It was. But it was more. These werent just better songs. This wasnt just a singer/song writer and a sideman. This was a band.If it wasnt for Blown Marshall Amp, things might sound a little different. How different? Who knows? But during Slugs first recording session, (oh and they werent even Slug yet. They were Badger), Alans Marshall Amp blew up (no smoke and flames, bit dull really. I guess a more accurate term is it died). There was a lot of tedious to-ing and fro-ing as the local Music shop tried to source a new old transformer. No luck. So Alan armed himself with an Acoustic Amp, an Electro-Acoustic Resonator, and headed back to his original vision. It would have been sometime around now that Daves Double Bass broke. The tension of the strings tore the tail right off. Where would we be without our local hardware shops? So, its a sort of percussive sound, but without the aid of drums? Thats right. Honed over years of trying to fill the gaps in the aural landscape. Influenced by Ani DiFranco; John Lennons Plastic Ono Band Album; Richard Thompson; Willie Nelson; Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac; Steve Marriott; Ronnie Lane and a handful of others. Alan presented these names to Dave to see if they were heading in the same direction. Dave, being a jazzy gezzer, had barely heard of any of them. And as for knowing their music? Youre aving a laugh. Still, good friends, and good musicians should never let such things get in the way..So the rest is history in the making.
