When Sophie Calle was dumped unceremoniously by a lover who had found another, over a red telephone in an Indian hotel, she wrote about her Exquisite Pain so repetitively that by the end of her book, she'd rid herself of it, tiring of it's exhausing details. In fact the text fades away, just like her pain did, because by the time she'd told her story of pain a hundred times, it transformed from feelings via words, into just words, and then into non-existence - or memory via a book. I think she's onto something.
