The Restaged Histories project is a contemporary performance company whose principal members are based in Sydney and Brisbane. We combine moments in history with skewed theatricality to create work which has earned us praise like:
'the RHP have a way of highlighting the comic surrealism of departed events in a striking and contemporary way' (Time Off 2005)
'its reassuring to watch a group of dedicated emerging artists commit themselves to boundary-stretching and eclectic text-based theatre...There is a European feel to this companys aesthetic (and repertoire)...The company deserves the support and attention it is currently receiving' (Real Time 2006)
'the whole piece is refreshing for its refusal to kowtow to lowest common denominator audience expectations...There is a feast of physical, visual and linguistic images...that augurs extremely well here, not just for the careers of the team of emerging artists involved, but also perhaps for the future of contemporary performance in Brisbane' (Real Time 2005)
And here are quotes from some people who don't like our work:
'There is only so much bum wiggling, sneering and whip- cracking that can be put into a serious piece' (Nigel Munro-Wallis 2005)
'Yet, at the end of 80 minutes, members of the polite opening-night...were either left scratching their heads or posturing as if they actually understood that parts of this work were only comprehensible to the author-director and the cast (although, I suspect, even they were in the dark some of the time)' (Brett Debritz 2005)
Restaged Histories makes clever contemporary performance for Generation Y, X, and a surprising number of hip old folks (Baby Boomers need not apply because a lot of them agree with the aforementioned cunts)
