365 Days of Gratitude
I am a tall and often clumsy rural female who suffers from occasional bouts of indecisiveness. I have big heart that is surprisingly forgiving and great love for the friendships in my life that I maintain. I like to secretly dance in my bedroom to Outkast and I will try on any bad outfit in the mall to cheer up my friends when they are down. I may or may not have felt comfortable in that powder blue velour one piece hooded tracksuit by JLo. I have an appreciation for art and literature. I like to sketch with inky black pens and scribble words on pieces of scrap paper. I dream of being able to swing dance confidently and wow everyone around me. I like hiding under blankets to read and smoking cigarettes on snowy evenings. I keep a picture of Leonard Cohen taped to my I.D. in my wallet. I like bright red lipstick that usually ends up on that one tooth that does it's own thing. I studied French on my own. I used to peddle CDs Monday thru Friday in a centre that caters to the business crowd. It was there I discovered people downtown like stealing Rap and Ozzy Osborne the most, along with Lord Of The Ring DVDs. Currently, I am discovering my new city and feeling lost in French words. I used to live in the prairies and I'll always be a prairie girl at heart - people are much more kind in a smaller venue. Once a friend said to me, "There's nothing like a prairie sunset" and now I can understand his view. I enjoy traveling, I enjoy memories of simple things - like the feeling of the sun on my face while I drank my morning coffee in Texas and the smell of the water at night in New Orleans. I fear that I am boring. I am often worried for no reason. I use homeopathy for medication and do not eat meat. I love cosmetic artistry, especially looks from the 20s to the 50s. I long to play the piano. And best of all...I'm in love and Montreal is now my new home, despite my stubborness to retain my Anglo/prairie ways.

My Interests

Reading, writing, letter-writing, cosmetic artistry, music, dancing, poetry, art, going to shows, travel, pens & paper, going to the post office to mail letters (that makes me sound so lame), late night conversations in bed, learning, museums, wax museums, vegetarianism, fashion, pin-up art, studying vintage looks and makeup techniques from the 20s to the 50s (I like the 40s the best), the French Quarter, graveyards, coffee, theatre, dry and boring foriegn films that no one wants to see with me, photography, tarot cards, long walks through uncrowded streets, volunteer work, journal writing, maneki neko golden waving cats, interested in learning piano one day, talking over bad coffee in a cheap coffee shop, lusting over bacon (not Kevin), MAC Cosmetics, currently...owls, bonsai trees and venus flytrap plants, etc. I'm sure there are more but I am getting bored already.

I'd like to meet:

People who can make me laugh and people who can make me think. People who aren't so wrapped up in a scene, who will belittle me for not knowing everything. People who can admit that they too like Gordon Lightfoot (I can't be the only one?). Generally, I would like to meet interesting people who have some stories kicking around and that I can learn something from. Who's kidding who, I'd like to meet some girls to talk with.

Music:

So I think I should revise some of this now. Don't worry, I am still in love with ol' man Leonard Cohen - first and foremost. And The Alley Dukes are finally growin' on me, haha. Especially that guitar player, Meeoww!. What else...

The Dead Milkmen! The Killjoys! Been listening to a lot of blues these days - Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James, Son House, Bukka White, Big Joe Williams, etc...but I am just learning more about it, in depth. Old ragtime stuff. Human Drama, Johnny Indovina, Jeff Buckley, Fischerspooner, Charlie Feathers, Wanda Jackson, Justin Hawkins, The Darkness, Paladins, Stellastarr*, Hayden, Gordon Lightfoot, The Bomboras, The Tiki-Tones, The Cramps, Nina Simone, Astrud Gilberto, Chet Baker, The Smiths, Bloodshot Bill, Franz Ferdinand, Jacob's Japanese garage cds and 20s music cds he made for me, Wayne Hancock, Flat Duo Jets, Johnny Cash, Dale Watson, Dizzy Elmer, The Brains, Bobby Darin, Neil Diamond, etc...etc. Some folk(but not enough to stop wearing deoderant), rockabilly, old jazz, old blues, old country and some stuff that a lot of people think is crap...Songs that make me feel. I don't want to go on like those somewhat annoying people who list their entire music collection.

Movies:

The English Patient, Swingers, Freaks, Interview With The Vampire (I can't help it), old horror movies from the 30s, Cinema Paradiso, Life Is Beautiful, B-movies, Adaptation, old horror movies that have cool, creepy makeup. Ah, there would be better ones if I actually saw movies.

Television:

I get farmervision...therefore, I watch no television. Unless you count the handfuls of snowy channels. However, I do watch the news to keep me up to date. I don't mind Family Guy and Zuleira bizarrely got me hooked on Lost. When I go back home, I watch bad, bad television. Like embarrassing stuff. Like Dog the Bounty Hunter. Also, I have a guilty pleasure for Big Brother.

Books:

I love to read! There's nothing more satisfying than getting lost in a book. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery(sp?), The World According To Garp by John Irving, The Stone Angel by Margeret Lawrence, On The Road by Jack Kerouac, Lady Chatterly's Lover by DH Laurence, The Eye by Nabokov, The Bad Girls Guide to Getting What You Want by Cameron Tuttle, all of Kevyn Aucoin's makeup books, the Griffin and Sabine series by Nick Bantock, etc. SARK. I read A LOT so check my blogs for lists of books I read per month.

Heroes:

Kevyn Aucoin, for his suberb makeup artist skills. My good friend and honourary sister Felica. People who dance really well. People who can play old-timey piano. My future husband, Mr. Leonard Cohen.
