Kind words for Dumb Angel and "Ghost Dance":
"Dumb Angel, the stage name for Shaun Mason. The stage name in no way fits the intelligent music he has created. This solo debut by the mid-twenties Mason is sensitive and ethereal. In a word: gorgeous. Mason searches for his sense of place while picking out beautiful melodies on his acoustic guitar. Mason evokes Nick Drake, Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters), and Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) as he quietly explores his inner emotions. Mason's solo debut establishes him as an artist to watch." - Jeff Weiss, Miles of Music
"These songs are rivers that slowly stream through an infinite landscape." - Wim Bolujit, www.hanx.net
"Dumb Angel has captured a mix of subtlety, thoughtfulness, and melody that allows him to escape the clutches of hellish melodrama and elevate his music to a higher plane of existence" - Planet S
"tender, introspective folk tunes that take their sweet time and recall Nick Drake, Iron & Wine and The Smiths." - The Saskatoon Star Phoenix
"To put it simply, Dumb Angel sounds, well, angelic." - The Sheaf

Dumb Angel is the musical alter-ego of 26-year old singer-songwriter Shaun Mason. Hushed, spectral compositions, the songs of Dumb Angel are built around Mason's ethereal voice and melodic finger-picked acoustic guitar. At times evoking Nick Drake, Red House Painters and Spiritualized, Dumb Angel remains distinctly unique as it charts it's own luminous musical explorations of self and place.
Mason released his first album as Dumb Angel, the self-produced and -released "Ghost Dance" in 2006. Building on, yet retaining, the sparse and fragile nature of Mason's live solo performances; 'Ghost Dance' combines richly textured vocal harmonies, layered acoustic guitars and glockenspiel that together create a kind of one-man chamber-folk sound. 'Ghost Dance' was home-recorded by Mason, and mixed by Mason and Carbon Dating Service's Steve Reed. Since its release, "Ghost Dance" has received glowing reviews, international attention and charted extensively on Canadian community radio.
But Dumb Angel isn’t Mason’s first musical endeavor. Perhaps most notably, Mason was a guitarist and founding member of Saskatoon space-rock legends Blood Music. Mason has also been involved to varying degrees with Mahogany Frog, Lorca, Maybe Smith, and the Cracker Cats. Following the demise of Blood Music in the summer of 2004, Mason began to further pursue his songwriting, developing a solo act under the name Dumb Angel. Since then Dumb Angel has gathered a devoted following in Saskatoon, playing dozens of shows in and around the city, including dates in Alberta, Manitoba, and recently a string of performances in Seoul, South Korea. Mason is currently planning Dumb Angel’s first Canadian tour, as well as the follow-up to "Ghost Dance" due in 2008.
