Incyte Biography
Born and raised in the fertile musical breeding ground of west London in the exciting early 90’s the young Incyte soon began to soak up the rich musical surroundings around him. Being shaped by the seminal early hardcore and jungle sounds that were forming he mixed his tastes with American hip hop and grunge and it was only a matter of time before he was reaching for the microphone and making his impact….. He soon formed part of the seminal Double negative MC and DJ collective who stormed onto the airwaves with three prime time slots of underground garage, breakbeat and drum bass on the London’s ever popular Blaze and Image fm. Always rocking the party and airwaves with his versatility and professionalism Incyte soon also gained a reputation for dealing with important and real issues and analysing the world we live through his lyric fortitude. With an impressive fan base growing he soon knew however it was time to take his plan of pushing conscious and positive vibes through music to a much wider audience.
As times moved and changed he embraced the newly forming breakbeat scene and also formed Subterfuse, one of the premier live drum and bass outfits. Working with breakbeat luminaries like DJ Mutiny & Quest he helped run and host the legendary defensive breakbeat night back in 2003, shaping the scene for time to come. Since those heady and exciting days he has grown considerably in stature and plays to crowds of several thousands with scene leaders like Stanton Warriors and Freestylers as well as having tours of the US and France with the award winning Far Too Loud and NAPT. His electrifying live band Subterfuse has jetted over the world and rocked venues alongside world famous musicians like jazz star Eric Truffaz and electronic giant Herbaliser and he was the front man to the Culprit One tour alongside drum and bass superstar Miss Trouble. Aside from the live performances he has of course been immortalised on wax countless times, most notably with super producer Rogue Element on his debut album and firing young upstarts Specimen A. Put simply, his expanding repertoire of styles and unique microphone skill means he can translate his positive ideas with the utmost ease into several different mediums, all with the outcome of critical success.
If these achievements weren’t enough he also took over the helm of the Funkatech and Sub Frequency Funk Records along side his compadre DJ Cubit in 2005. Laughing in the face of people bemoaning the fact that dance music wasnt selling and provided no real income, he soon began turning in the enviable figures through his belief in pushing new and quality music and sheer dedication to getting his point across. This was most poignantly proved when he won the best OVERALL single with Far Too Loud’s ‘Get High’ at the International Breakbeat Awards 2007. Continuing with this success both labels released over 12 tunes through 2007 and received acclaim for the EPS series from FTL, NAPT and Mutiny. Several tracks were licensed to compilations not just from the breakbeat world but also through the trance scene and to house supreme Miles Dyson. They appeared on national radios across the world, topped buzz charts and were used in international ad campaigns... At several points in the year he was in fact behind up to nearly half of the top ten sellers in many breakbeat charts. This all bares testament to incyte’s unswerving passion and unique ability to forcibly inject the market with the most exciting and forward thinking music.
With his artist roster of FTL, Spec A, Mutiny and NAPT all vying for contention as the next big thing, the future has no signs of easing up the pace…. so fasten your seatbelts and expect more award winning music, floor shaking parties, much talked about artist albums and some surprises from the man whose work rate actually lives up to his unique and superior talent.
