Next event is Saturday 23rd February
Welcome to Coast, the biggest breaks event to hit the city of Plymouth.
The Hub venue has a state of the art sound and lighting system unrivalled in the city, and plays host to the mighty Tom Real. After last years blinding Aquasky party this remains the biggest breaks event in Plymouth, Satrting 2008 with a breaks bang.Tom Real follows a nassively successful 2007 with plenty more tricks up his sleeve in 2008. With continued support and airplay from Radio 1's Annie Nightingale and Annie Mac his productions with Rogue Element are really setting a benchmark in the scene.
Tom Real
It's fair to say that 2007 has been very busy for Tom Real beginning with his debut single of the year 'Feel My' in collaboration with production partner The Rogue Element becoming 'Single Of The Month' in leading UK dance magazines DJ and iDJ. The pair also won the 'Best Remix' accolade at this year's Breakspoll Awards which took place at Fabric in London and that was just in the first two months!
As well as performing rockin' peak time sets at several of the UK's leading festivals including Glastonbury, Glade and Sunrise Celebration, Tom has regularly performed across the UK in 2007 including leading London venues like Turnmills and The End. This summer saw the release of 'Functional's Finest Moments', compiled by Tom for Functional Records and a label retrospective from one of the UK's longest running underground dance imprints, while he also remixed the fiftieth release from the same label. In fact, this year has seen Tom's profile as a DJ and producer really take off and it shows no sign of slowing down.
On the production front Tom's trademark bass-heavy mash-up sound has seen him remix legendary US dance act The Crystal Method with The Rogue Element for a special tenth anniversary remix album which the band have commissioned themselves. Their version sits alongside remixes from leading producers like Paul Oakenfold, MSTRKFT, Hyper, Deadmau5 and many more. With two killer singles about to drop as part of the Passenger Records' groundbreaking 'This Way Up' album project – 'Machine', an electro-tech cut made alongside The Rogue Element', and 'Another Dimension', a huge four-to-the-floor anthem in collaboration with Aquasky – Tom's productions are being hammered by leading DJs from many different genres across the globe.Alongside his day job managing UK electronic and events PR company Cypher Press, Tom has just landed a new role as A&R manager for fast rising electro house label Fakt Recordings who have already released tracks by the Cheshire Catz, Black Russian, Fake Hero and David Ekenback. Tom will not only act as talent spotter for the label but will also deliver some filthy electro house of his own and mix the forthcoming 'Fakt 01' album showcasing the best of past, present and future releases.
With Tom's skills behind the decks increasingly in demand, he is set to perform at one of the most interesting new festivals in the UK, The Waveform Project, while trips to Russia, Greece, Brazil and Australia are already in the diary. There are plenty of dates across the UK throughout the autumn too. His unique sound fusing electro, techno and bass-heavy beats has proved a firm favourite with a wide selection of clubbers and he receives an excellent response wherever he plays.
Add to this, Tom and The Rogue Element's monthly radio show 'Disco Of Doom' on samurai.fm, one of the world's coolest online stations, which is designed to showcase the broad selection of music they both play. It's no surprise, therefore, that Tom Real is hitting the parts other DJs cannot reach.
Ben & Lex
After their superb and memorable performance from last Novembers event Ben & Lex return for more Ape carnage. With the APE record label going from strength to strength, this performance on Devon soil will delight the crowd.
Ben & Lex's debut single “Cosa Nostra†was released on Functional Breaks in 2003 and received universal DJ and radio support around the world. Their second release for the label followed soon after, a double ‘A’ sided single “Proper Tasty / Reconsidered†which firmly stamped its mark on the breaks scene with radio play on Radio One, Ministry of Sound FM, Breaks FM, several other international shows and has had DJ support from the likes of Freq Nasty, Krafty Kuts, Skool of Thought, Tayo and Steelzawheelz to name but a few.
Their distinctive sound can be heard on their weekly Nuskool Breaks radio show as well as guest mixes for Pulseradio.net and Outofthevoid.co.uk. Ben & Lex have also had an exclusive half-hour mix on Radio 1 for Annie Nightingale and they are residents at the UK’s longest running monthly breakbeat night, Beatz & Bobz, where they regularly support break beat heavyweights such as Rennie Pilgrem, Freq Nasty, Tayo, James Lavelle (Unkle) and The Freestylers as well as giants such as the Wu tang, Afrika Bambaata, Grandmaster Flash, Adam F & Fresh and DJ Zinc.
With critically acclaimed sets across the UK Ben & Lex have also made numerous festival appearances at Glastonbury, The Glade and Beautiful Days. They are also gaining international kudos with recent appearances at the Miami Winter Music Conference, Dangerous Drums in Berlin, Mission Dance Winter Sessions in Mannheim and the Break Nation festival in Seville where they rocked it to a crowd of over 10,000 Spanish nutters!!
Party time Ben & Lex grymee style! AGAIN!
