Paul Simpson

Guitar, but not as you know it

About Me

Paul Simpson has had a guitar in his hands since the age of three. After this late start he went on to study classical guitar at school, until a chance hearing of Jimi Hendrix's 'Purple Haze' on the radio changed the way he approached music forever. Further similar revelations came later in life when Paul encountered Jungle Techno, 'Exit Planet Dust' by the Chemical Brothers, 'Dummy' by Portishead, 'Blue' by Joni Mitchell, 'Astral Weeks' by Van Morrison and 'Solid Air' by John Martyn.Having played most styles of guitar, Paul's goal is to create his own signature style of guitar playing and music by fusing the best elements of his favourite music into something entirely unique and new. He does this with just a guitar, an amp and a few small, brightly coloured effects pedals. He enjoys the looks on people faces when they discover that all those sounds on his recordings are made using just a lump of wood with some steel strings on it and some small boxes filled with fairly crude electronics.
