About Me

I was born in San Antonio in '78 @ Lackland AFB, military brat, grew up in Brandon, Suffolk - England in the 80's, moved back in '88. Lived in Fort Worth, Tx until 2000, graduated from TCU, moved to Philadelphia for a year where I sang in the Philly Pops Chorus and briefly performed opera for kids with a troupe of 8 singers locally, and received my MM in Performance and Literature (Opera/Classical voice emphasis) and Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.I moved from Astoria to Washington Heights near New York Presbyterian Hospital, right off the 168th St. Stop on the A/C/1/2 trains at the end of October 2007, to live with my friend Warren. Just got back from KwaMhlanga, South Africa with my brother and his lovely wife Sara, where we worked in the villages/communities with orphaned children and assist two organizations: Mukhanyo Community Development Center & Mukhanyo Theological College. I have NOTHING to complain about ever again after what I experienced and it changed me forever. HIV/AIDS has swallowed S. Africa.....but the spirit of the people there is something I don't see in the US.I have one brother who's my best friend, love to laugh a lot, make music, want to play the mandolin, read scary as all hell books, watch british or dark comedy, snuggle. I'm fond of Tom Tykwer, Greg Araki, Guiermo Del Toro, Michael Haneke and Richard Linklater films, Mark Ryden, Renoir, Miro, Baptiste Ibar, and Joe Coleman art/paintings, Lucille Ball, Edward Gorey, ice skating, being in a room filled with antiques, old clocks, cellos, old parlor pianos, mint chocolate ice cream, long showers, I love writing, Opera, but not operas, hairy pecs and a nice ass on a guy, a melting smile, pears, cellos, granny smith apples, having the back of my neck licked, greek salads, pinot noir, blackberries, dark chocolate, riesling, long romantic dinners that end in wild, hot, intense...conversations. Love me some artistic visionaires, watching "so bad, they're good" 70's Italian horror movies by Dario Argento, listening to John Musto's "Recuerdo," Barber's "Dover Beach", Arvo Part's "Alina" or Max Richter's "The Blue Notebook" while writing. Love roughing it in the outdoors, making out with a hot man in a suit and tie, good flan and Creme Brulée, the smell of old books and libraries, live concerts (from Dead Can Dance to Patty Griffin to Max Sharam to The Frames) getting lost in a good book or conversation and realizing it's 4 a.m., kid memories of making snowmen with my bro. THE AMBUSH (Brian Patten)When the face you swore never to forget Can no longer be remembered, When a list of regrets are torn up and thrown away Then the hurt fades, And you think you've grown strong. And you sit in bars and boast to yourself, 'Never again will I be vulnerable, It was an aberration to be so open, A folly never to be repeated.' How absurd and fragile such promises. Hidden from you, crouched Among the longings you have suppressed And the desires you have tamed, A sweet pain waits in ambush. And there will come a day when in a field Heaven's mouth gapes open, And on a web the shadow Of a marigold will smoulder. Then without warning, Without a shred of comfort, Emotions you thought had been put aside Will flare up within you and bleed you of reason. The routines which comforted you, And the habits in which you sought refuge Will bend like sunlight under water, And go astray. Your body will become a banquet, Falling heavenwards, You will loll in spring's sweet avalanche Without the burden of memory, And once again Monstrous love will swallow you.
