About Me

This Alfredo de Batuc profile was started in the summer of 2006 by de Batuc's friends Steve & Laurie Price when he was still in a convalescent hospital recovering from a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome. (http://www.gbsfi.com/aboutgbs.htm.)After a year and a half away from home I returned to my familiar haunts, the coach house in Donald Ferguson's historic property: the Willard Doran House in the venerable North University Park sector of old Los Ángeles. While I am much recovered, I am no yet well enough to live completely independently, I still require the help of a personal care assitant for many of my needs. Currently I am doing physical and occupational therapy at Rancho Los Amigos Naional Rehab Center in Downey. Thank God my recovery is steady but I still cannot foresee when I will be my old(er?) self again, so, please do not ask me when I'll be back at painting. What I would love to do more than anything else these days is to be able to button my shirt or open a jar of olives by myself, as well as many other mundane activities of daily living. Art-making can wait or may be given up or may resurface as something other than painting.Throughout this challenging experience I have had the good fortune of having loving friends who have supported and continue supporting me in many ways. These friends were/are the mainstay that has kept me, especially at my darkest hour, from sinking and being swallowed up by dispair. Friends and their caring acts are too many to enumerate. To them all I now say THANK YOU because I still haven't made the time to write a personal Thank-You note.Needless to say you won't be seeing any new work of mine for a while. In case you care to know the following galleries in Los Ángeles carry my work (listed in alphabetical order):Ave 50 Studio 131 N.
