GREAT BANDS FOR 60's/SOUL/PSYCH/GARAGE NIGHT in/around Williamsburg-- Do you have a great band of this variety or something along these lines that's not getting exposure or wants to find a place on a bill with like-minded bands (and not be opening for a two-man electro "project" called something like "nuts and bolts"?) The Hullabaloo features 3-4 bands w/ DJing in-between, making it a party and not a one-off show. Join us!

December/January/February: Many amazing doowop singles-- The Videos on Casino (Trickle Trickle), The Cellos on Apollo (I'm the Japanese Sandman), The El Dorados on Vee-Jay (My Front Door)... the Oblivians Play 9 Songs With Mr. Quintron (finally on vinyl); Reverend Charlie Jackson (Gospel stuff on Crypt); Les Sexareenos 7" EP on Telstar; also rediscovered Toussaint McCall's Shimmy on Ronn (7" I had forgotten about for years until Tim Warren reminded me); the Spaceshits LP on Sympathy for the Record Industry (from 98 or so-- it's great!); Thee Headcoats' Time Will Tell 7" on Sub Pop (Xmas gift!); Two Guys from Boston's "I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate" 7"; Ian & the Aztecs' 7" on Spinout (good rockabilly/50's r'n'b style); a Koko Taylor LP on Chess; Staple Singers' Pray On LP on Epic; Tommy James & The Shondells' Cellophane Symphony LP; J Hines & The Boys FunkyXmas 7" on Nation-wide (a little late for a xmas record, but it's good!)...
CD/Digi:
December/January/February: Lamont Dozier's "Goin' Back to My Roots" 12" (mp3-- I can't afford the original!); Dion's new album (from 2007) Son of Skip James (production is so-so but there are highlights on this blues album); Doris Duke's I'm a Loser album (2 CD compilation on Kent-- grrreat!); the Fallen Leaves It's Too Late Now (debut CD-- amazing!); Marabunta's debut album (amazing stoner/hard rock from Portugal!)...
stuff i'm still wallowing in :
Lee Hazlewood (last album & old stuff... 3 years running now). Neil Young's latest (Chrome Dreams II).
stuff i already have but haven't listened to yet :
I have about 150 7"s to clean, nothing way exciting in there. A bunch of LPs I haven't listened to yet including another Oblivians album.
things i want to hear but haven't yet :
flamin' groovies' "teenage head", country soul revue, the others, the nihilists & the sads (prague), gorky's zygotic mynci - spanish dance troupe (the album!)
things i need to hear but can't find:
pretty sated at the moment actually...finding more than ever now, with my new and improved gemm vs. ebay vs. popsike vs. local record shops strategy...

There Will Be Blood was very good. I'm Not There = good in parts, otherwise pretty lame. so/so soundtrack. Night and the City (Jules Dassins' final Noir) = fantastic.
now with cable... an entire channel for bad westerns?! check. showtime/hbo series (curb, dexter, etc)? check. 300 channels of BS? quadruple check.
FINALLY! I'm reading a book. Something in the Air by Marc Fisher.. about the dawn of pop radio/top 40/FM, etc. interesting, maybe not totally inspiring the whole way through but it's a good overview.
