Harlequin Jones

Unmade silent film music for modern violent life

About Me

The seething underdog. The blues siren. The vaudevillain. The jilted lover. The trash and the treasure. The many faces of Harlequin Jones set the stage for a post-punk, dark cabaret, blues concoction of music "suitably dramatic...to guide us through hell."
Harlequin Jones infuse elements of blue devils, unmade silent film scores, seedy circus life, and a rock n' roll influenced background to challenge the listener with originality of an art project gone terribly right. Amanda von Loon’s trashy elegance on piano, along with rich, nearly husky vocals compliment Yishai Arcadio’s part jazz-master part scrap-metal machine drumming to result in a synergy of moxie, chemistry, and talent.
Harlequin Jones became a fully functional weapon officially in 2005 in an antiquated bedroom in Simi Valley, CA. Ever since Von Loon and Arcadio found their compatibility to fit like lock and key, they continue to search and destroy in Hollywood, CA. The band is in process of recording a second self-produced EP.

Live shows have featured a motley crue of guest members with talents of fiddle, washboard, and electrical guitar. Most lately, our rock god friend Ronny graces us with his bass playing never lacking proper distortion.

Influences:

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Tom Waits, Rasputina, Gogol Bordello, Hole, The Distillers, Bessie Smith, Fiona Apple, Two Ton Boa, The Kills, Danzig, The Black Heart Procession, Nina Hagen, Reverend Glasseye, Morphine, Danny Elfman, Les Claypool, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Three Mile Pilot, Oingo Boingo, X, Bikini Kill, Rollins, The Cramps, Madness, Nirvana, The Clash

Sounds Like:

We’ve been told we resemble:
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Jill Tracy, Katzenjammer Kabarett, The Dresden Dolls, Fiona Apple, PJ Harvey, Diamanda Galas, Tom Waits, and The Creatures.
We’ve been informed this oddball music is called dark cabaret, punk cabaret, post-punk, neo-burlesque, experimental, sepiachord, goth, vaudeville, avant-garde...

Until we invent our own cute little brand name,
just call it the blues.

Granted, some unconventional blues at that...
