Orchestrating her self-produced music from behind a computer console and a wall of electronics, Terami Hirsch is half the girl next door and half the mad scientist. Over the last six years she has privately recorded four albums in her home based studio, each brimming with her imaginative piano stylings, electronic flair and odd, expressive voice.
Terami’s newest offering, Entropy 29, is certainly no exception. The album is about an inner journey, weaving stories of loss and childhood through a backdrop of science fiction. “Time travel. Space travel. Ghosts. Lucid dreaming. Parallel realities. This album is about all the things I love the best”, Terami admits.
Described as “cerebral theatre” by Indie Music and relished as “a hidden treasure” by Ink 19, this is not music for a mainstream pop audience. But, then, Terami prefers it that way.
A self-described introvert raised in glitzy Los Angeles, she temporarily relocated to Galway, Ireland for some peace and seclusion. Once there, she focused on writing and other anti-social trappings. Eventually she returned to the States and graduated from art school with an emphasis in cinematography while moonlighting as an 11th grade physics teacher. But before all that, she was an enthusiastic piano student who began writing her own songs when she was eleven years old.
Despite its birth through sequestered creativity and experimental knob-twiddling, Entropy 29 is a boldly emotional album. Its journeys are personal, bittersweet and ultimately triumphant.
