Urban sprawl is a disease and we are the cure.

Please stop by these three important meeting to give your input to local officials. Thanks! - Heather, VSG
*Monday, October 23, 5:30pm-8:00pm* Truckee Meadows Growth Task Force Report. Sponsored by the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency, Washoe County Commission Chambers,1001 East 9th Street Reno.
This event will include a review of the work completed by five committees and workshops addressing five priority areas of growth in our region. The reports include a report on natural resources and open space, Affordable Housing, Downtown Revitalization of Reno and Sparks, Transportation, Community Reinvestment Fund. For a copy of the report and other information go to:
http://www.tmgtf.org/reports.html
*Tuesday, October 24, 4:00-7:00* Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency Open House, Reno-Sparks Convention Authority. Rm A-2. The Natural Resources Component has been completed. *Please note that subsequent recommendations to strengthen the natural resourcesand open space component were apparently rejected. Also note that no one represents open space or wildlife on the TAC.* Government planners do a dance between their knowledge that infill and density are important, the residents belief that, yes, density is nice somewhere else, and developers wanting a free reign to get the most at the lowest dollar. As you know, these open meetings are held primarily to document publicprocess not to listen to public input.
*Wednesday, November 1, 4:00-7:00 p.m.* Reno-Sparks Convention Center Rm A-Update on of the 208 Water Quality Management Plan. Open House.
Voters for Sensible Growth (VSG) is a citizen group that formed in February of 2006 in response to the outrageous development that is devouring open land around Reno/Sparks. VSG members believe that growth is important for our community and economy, but it should be done in a managed way that doesn't destroy our open spaces.
VSG members routinely speak at City Council, County Commission and Regional Planning Governing Board meetings. We hold anti-sprawl protests, write letters to the editor about the growth issue, and work hard to educate the community on growth issues. We also support candidates and elected officials who believe in managed growth that upholds the quality of life for area residents while preserving the wilderness and open spaces for which Northern Nevada is known.

My Interests

"The ultimate test of man's conscience may be his willingness to sacrifice something today for future generations whose words of thanks will not be heard."— Gaylord Nelson former governor of Wisconsin, co-founder of Earth Day

I'd like to meet:

People who love Reno/Sparks and want to live here for many years. Also, people willing to actively stand up for citizen's rights, which are being trampled on over the growth issue.
