Jah Child - The Rising Sun

Jah Child, you finished your debut album in July in Germany. Last week there was a video shooting for `above a dem`, the song that also gave your album its name. What is the message of this song?
Moving above a dem means that you do different things than others and that you are going for your career trying to hold your head high while moving above of the babylon system. For instance the government doesn´t care about the youths who do drugs and freak out, and my message is that it´s better you try to move above such an unsocial system. In the song I say `I´m moving to a higher level again` which simply means I try to move above of this whole system. The leaders who give the guns to the youths cause crime, and I´m trying to different myself with this song. I´m trying to change the system like many other artists who burn the fire so much. We are fighting against the crime caused by polititians mashing up the country doing nonsense.
What is going on in Jamaica, what is the reason for so much violence?
Poverty. And poverty causes crime. The polititians force the youths to do drugs and crime because they give them no chance.
The crime rate in Jamaica is high. Raping or killing is in the news almost everyday. Is there a solution?
Well, it´s easy. They need to start to share, because the leaders take all for themselves. The legislation must be changed. Check the crime rate. I left Jamaica now for 6 months and when I turn back and I turn on the TV the first news I´m going to hear will be crime news. It´s bad, very bad.
Your one drop songs talk a lot about attitude and message. What is your life attitude...
Well, one of my latest tunes is about life style and life attitude. It´s called ´worst of time`. In that song I say I could be a gunman , I could rape, I could steal. You have to know I used to sleep on the street, but I´m still a good person. A girl said to me once: ´that´s not the end of life`, and she was right. So my attitude is more conscious, the best thing you can do is to stay away from guns and from crime and from problems. Do the best you can and one day Jah will open the door for you. Also a part of my life attitude is eating natural food. I mostly eat Ital stew, fish and vegetables and fruits. I like to keep it natural.
...and what is your inspiration?
I go to the hills and I spend time on the beach or I stay in the bush listening to birds. I love to get inspiration by music, like from my favourite singer Peter Tosh and my favourite DJ Anthony B. I like to observe. I watch the streets of Jamaica and write about it. And I like to move people from inside and outside. I do Dancehall tunes to entertain the people on a dance, and I do Reggae to send my message.

Yes, same message like `above a dem`. I fight for my beliefs, for my beliefs as a rasta. In Jamaica they say belief is a doubt. That´s right. You must know it. You must know that you can do it!

I know that we can make it. I know I can do something and I work on that until I reach.
