Other magnificent bastards and sophisticated retards like me, A close approximation of this young lady: KNUCKLEHEADS. Rustic yokels of all stripes. People who don't take themselves too seriously but realize that any day above dirt is better than every day below it. People who build tasteful, greasy, DIY bikes, hot rods and kustoms, low brow artists (tattoo and the other kind), and contemporary beatnik types who might want me to write about them. Editors who aren't overly fussy and want to pay me to write stuff. ..
Lately it's been a 3 way tie for Mod/Snotty Garage, Early punk rock and 60s Honky Tonk/70s Country/Newer Hipster Country stuff. Either raw, loud and primitive or sappy, overwrought and emotive...In general I like Old Country(Hillbilly,Honky-Tonk,Old Timey,etc.) OLD Rockabilly, 40s/50s R&B and Western Swing & Rock n' Roll, 60s Mod, Garage, Beat and Psychedelic, Country Rock, early Punk, Classic Rock, 80s hardcore and indie rock, some Soul & Funk, and vocal/guitar jazz. I'm more of a snob than a nerd about music but I have thousands of CDs, Lps, 45s and 78s. For example, but not limited to these: I'm all over the place, maybe that's why I don't have a band anymore...
Film Noir, French New Wave, Biker Films, War Movies, Documentaries, Comedies before the era of political correctness and most films discussed in "Easy Riders, Raging Bulls". Anything to do with or featuring actors or directors from Indiana. Anything I saw on Sammy Terry as a kid. For example, but not limited to: Lastly, this one was filmed in Fountain Square and at my favorite bar, The Red Key;
TV is for fatasses who never accomplish anything. That said, when I click on the tube I like The History Channel, Fox News, PBS and other assorted educational/documentary type stuff. TCM. Cartoons.
Mostly non-fiction: sociology and culture, politics, music history, hot rods and biker culture, architecture and design, crime and history in general. The World Atlas. James Ellroy, John Fante, Jim Tully, Charles Bukowski, Kurt Vonnegut, James Whitcomb Riley and whatnot.
My kids are the coolest. Billy Childish, Ray Davies, Buck Owens, Avriel Shull, The Gary Rogues, John Dillinger. Me.
