About Me

Who says rock stars have to be from California or New York City? No one, that's who. Just because a band comes from the hills of Central Pennsylvania does not, and I repeat does not mean that they rock any less than their predecessors. In fact, 4 Days Dirty has a presence that most of those other bands don't possess, and a drive that is going to carry them far beyond the realm of local shows here in Altoona, PA.
The band is compiled of four young, talented musicians all from the small town atmosphere, rising above small-town mentality with their musical stylings.
I often think it's unfair to categorize a band's sound to that of another, but upon first hearing the vocals of Steve Danfelt, it's obvious the powerful influence of Breaking Benjamin's Ben Burnley, as well as a strong semblance to his talent. Danfelt has the lungs of a deep-sea diver (as long as you pretend he doesn't smoke) on the mic. Strong and well-tuned, the product is a powerful mix somewhere between Burnley and Maynard James Keenan. An ecclectic mix, this just is the tip of the iceberg for 4 Days Dirty's sound.
Bringing in the buzzsaw sound on the guitar is Joey Neary. His style is somewhat of a mix between James Hetfrield, Stephen Carpenter, and his own all in one. Now don't get him confused with them, his style is a serious bag of tricks, sometimes filled with the most pleasant suprises.
The band's sound is solid and commanding with Justin Fair's drumming keeping more than time, but adding almost a jazzy funk to their altogether fluid sound. Fair doesn't just follow the normal thump-thump you'd expect, but picks up where others fall short.
Rounding out the foursome is bassist Paul Greiner, who offers the sickness in times of health. This is the sort of bassmanship, so to speak, that you pray for in a rock band. No filler here, so don't expect the expected.
This band is hard to categorize, which I've always felt was icing on the cake. They are multi-talented and influenced musically, which makes it difficult to jump to conclusions. They have proven time and time again to be a great live show to me, personally, as well as thousands of us lucky enough to have seen them live. It's always a good time, not just a band that will rock you to sleep gently as you drink your Guinness, but one that will rock your pants off while you party right along-side them. These guys suck you onto the stage metaphorically, or maybe even physically if you ask politely.
4 Days Dirty is definitely a band not to miss. Pick up a copy of their recent release, and most certainly, check out a live show near you.

Sounds Like:

"After honing their hard-hitting style and sound on the area stages over the past two years, 4 Days Dirty unleashes a powerful calling card with their first full-length album, "Raise Your Hand...If You Feel Like Dying."
Singer/guitarist Steven Danfelt, guitarist/backing vocalist Joey Neary, bassist Paul Greiner, and drummer Justin Fair introduce us to their musical turf of bone-jarring rhythms, menacing guitars, and emotion-packed vocals; executing forceful melodies with intriguing plot twists and gearshifting.
All 11 songs are distinct and hold their own as well, from the more immediate explosiveness of "Blindside," "Wait," "Stone Cold," and "Shotgun" to the more reserved tones of "Wanted" and "Loosen My Grip."
Recorded and produced by Dave Moses at his F.U.P. Studios in Hollidaysburg and mastered by Bill Dodd at Mudd Hut Studios, "Raise Your Hand...If You Feel Like Dying" sounds approprately raw, jagged, and bristling. This is an impressive debut that slams the exclamation point on 4 Days Dirty's coming of age, and is one of the strongest albums to emerge from the area music scene this year. -- Jim Price of Q94, for the Altoona Mirror
