Mystic Spiryt is no longer together. Due to many issues, the members went their separate ways. There are no signs of a new line-up.
Mystic Spiryt is a female fronted metal band with an edge. They consist of all original music. Each song brings on a new surprise. With their strive and determination this band really knows how to rock.
Mystic Spiryt got its start in March of 2001 when Tony Babich and Kristi Evans started writing music and realized that they had a connection. The two realized that they needed to find some other musicians to complete the line-up of the band. After some searching, the line-up was set: Kristi Evans on lead vocals, Tony Babich on lead guitar, Jim Clark on rhythm guitar, Tom McBride on the drums, and D. Logan Thomas on bass.
After splitting up in 2003, it looked like Mystic Spiryt was no more. But Tony Babich was determined to keep Mystic Spiryt going, so he searched for some new musicians. In 2006, the line-up was set. The new line-up was: Sam Bargenquast on lead vocals, Tony Babich on lead guitar, Sarah Shepard on rhythm guitar, John Magadanz on bass, and Glenn Marshall on drums.
Kristi Evans returned for a month in 2007 to perform at our shows for the preshow party at The Rave for Hinder, Black Stone Cherry and Finger Eleven (January 30th) and the Hattrix show in Kenosha (February 17th). After those performances, Sammy was brought back to sing lead vocals.
The recordings heard here and on the MysticSpiryt.com site contain Kristi's vocals and will soon be replaced with newer and better recordings as we can afford to re-record. Keep checking back for recording info...you will be the first to know!
The Members:
- SAM BARGENQUAST - Lead Vocals
This is the first time Samantha has been the front "man" in a band; she has always been the drummer. She was born in the North woods of Wisconsin and considers herself a redneck hick. Sam grew up in Lannon, Wisconsin and went to school in the Sussex Hamilton School district.Â
Right now she is going to the University of Waukesha Wisconsin for Physics because she hates it when people think the Earth is billions of years old and it is physically and scientifically impossible for the Earth to be older than 20,000 years. Her best friends are her parents and her man Daniel Marshall. She loves animals, big trucks, painting cars, crocheting, badminton, and the bible. (And she can make balloon animals. He he.)
Other than that: "Yee haw, get-r-done, and enjoy the show!"
- TONY BABICH - Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals
Tony Babich, also known as "Big T", hails from Waukesha, WI. He was born on May 14, 1961 in Milwaukee, WI. As a young child, he was exposed to music from birth, as his father was a guitar player and singer. Even after his parents divorced, the force of the music had a strong grip on Big T, and he began playing the drums. He moved on to playing the guitar and became active in local bands. In March of 2001, Big T was instrumental in forming Mystic Spiryt, along with Kristi Evans. Unfortunately, the match did not last. After parting ways in 2003, Big T was determined to continue Mystic Spiryt, and set out to find a new line-up of musicians with talent and drive. In 2006, the dream came true and Mystic Spiryt was reborn! In 2007, two original members (Big T and Kristi) reunited and with the other new members prepare to kick some serious rock and roll ass!
Big T prefers to use Ibanez Guitars.
- SARAH SHEPARD - Rhythm Guitar/Backing Vocals
On July 17, 1989...a child was born. This child was destined to hopelessly fall in love with music. This child was none other than Mystic Spiryt's Sarah Shepard. Sarah was born in Waukesha, WI. It wasn't until she was about 14 that Sarah began to love music so much. She had grown up listening to her parents' music, such as: Def Leppard, Van Halen, KISS, REO Speedwagon, and many others. She found some of this music to be quite interesting and much better than the music that her peers were listening to at the time.
She declares these groups/musicians to be some of her main influences: Def Leppard, Van Halen, Journey, Poison, Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, Lacuna Coil and Metallica. Some of her influences even go back to such bands as: T. Rex and David Bowie. Much more musically inspired than her other peers, Sarah wanted to pursue a hobby that was something along the lines of music. Once she had seen that some of her family members and friends had picked up the guitar as a hobby, she decided to give it a go herself.
After about a year of playing the guitar, she was asked to join Mystic Spiryt.
Sarah exclusively uses Jackson Guitars...because they kick ass! (Look at her page for more on this)
- JOHN MAGADANZ - Bass
John Magadanz was born on 04/03/1963 in Milwaukee Wisconsin. He didn't start to study music until 1986 and found it rather difficult. There wasn't anybody that was around that could help in his struggles while learning music. So it is safe to say that John was self taught.
When asked whom and what his influences are, John finds it a hard question to answer. When asked who his favorite band is, it becomes more apparent that he has a wide range of tastes. These can go from Blondie to Cindy Lauper to The Doors or The Who, The Guess Who, Led Zepellin, Black Sabbath, The Band, Johnny Cash, Mott The Hoople, Steppenwolf, Jefferson Airplane...and the list goes on and on...
John's style is mainly based on Blues, but when asked to make up a suitable bass line, he finds it fairly easy to create something appropriate for the whole of the song and it's over all movement. This comes from his days of playing with the band False Hope (1990-1996) False Hope is, by John's desciption an Alternative/Grunge/Punk band. Playing with F. H. taught him the ability to add lib and play with out a set list. These can be invaluable tools for the musician to have because you never really know what to expect when you play on stage and find yourself in a potential total meltdown.
- GLENN MARSHALL - Drums
Glenn Marshall was raised by two Amish lesbians. When he was a child, he was not allowed to play the drums, as they were not of "traditional" amish heritage. So, when his parents were working tirelessly in the fields, he would often run out to the barn and bang on the butterchurn as an attempt at drumming. After being attacked by some animals in the barn, Glenn decided that the butterchurn "drumset" was not working out. Instead, he turned to a friend. His friend happened to be amish too, but supplied Glenn with some more needed instruments for his drums. Glenn's friend, Izekial, gave him some pots and pans to go with his butterchurn....and after some practice, Glenn gained more experience and became better at drumming.
Nowadays, Glenn is happy to be out of Amish country and to be able to play on a real drumset, no pots...no churns...
Note: Some of this previous bio may have been a bit exaggerated...maybe...
Mystic Spiryt's review from Emergenza:
"Mystic Spiryt, a female fronted metal band with a touch of the blues, closed out this weekend’s events with true rock stances, a great rhythm section and excellent vocals."
