Influences: I grew up in a musical family playing piano at age 6 and switching to drums at age 12. With my father being a choral conductor / arranger and mother a pianist and composer, Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Hindemith, Stravinsky, and Copeland were heard around the house. The first record I ever bought was the Jackson Five "Third Album". Following that came, Tower of Power, Led Zeppelin, Friendship, the Police, EWF, Steely Dan, Bob Marley, Jeff Porcaro, Tony Williams, Alex Acuna, Stewart Copeland, Pat Metheny Group, Nana Vasconceles, Danny Gottlieb, Paul Wertico, Clyde Stubblefield, Jim Hamilton and Ray Brown, James Brown, Level 42, John Vidacovich and Astral Project, Antonio Sanchez, Little Feat, Steve Smith and Vital Information, Steps Ahead, Peter Erskine, Michael Brecker, Miles, Herbie Hancock, Brian Blade, Duke Ellington, Jeff Watts, Wayne Shorter, Christian McBride, Greg Hutchinson...
Sounds Like: **++ Side one - "COLOURS" and side four - "THE STORY OF NEPTUNE: FEAR NOT" are from the steve jennings jazztet recording, COLOURS. It features Dave O'Mara on clarinet with Keith Boyles on bass and the late great Bobby Peterson on piano and tenor sax. =.=.=.=.= Side two is "REAL AMERICANS" from the 2008 David Levin release, CRIMINAL. Vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, programming by David. Keys and percussion by Stan Hickerson. Drums and djembe by moi. =.=.=.=.= The fourth cut is from the Laurie Wheeler debut recording, FROM THE LAND OF DREAMS. "DAYLIGHT IN THE SWAMP" was recorded in Northfield, Mn at Salamagundi Studios by Steve McKinstry. Craig Wasner on lead and rhythm guitar that blends seamlessly with the saxophone of the late multi-instrumentalist Dave Sletten thanks to producer / guitarist Rick Wheeler. Gordon Oschwald is the bassist with Jay Johnson on percussion. Composed by LA based songwriter Steve McCormick (Wrensong, BMI)=.=.=.=.= The last tune is "BLOOD AND FEATHERS" is from the 2006 David Levin CD, STEPPING ON MY HAT.
